PHOTOS: Picnic Provides Inspiration for Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Athletes, Supporters

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Team In Training athletes got the chance to meet with cancer patients and survivors Saturday.

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's National Capital Area chapter hosted a picnic for Team In Training participants, along with blood cancer patients and survivors, at  Saturday.

The LLS Team in Training program trains athletes to compete in sporting events like marathons, half marathons, triathlons and 100-mile bike rides while raising money for cancer research.

At the picnic, Team in Training athletes got the chance to hear from cancer survivors and patients who benefit from the work of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Meeting with the patients and survivors — known as honored teammates — allowed for Team in Training participants to see first-hand the value of their fundraising efforts, according to LLS. The picnic also honored the memory of those who had lost their battle with cancer.
