Council Committee Set to Evaluate Bethesda Urban Partnership

The performance evaluation of the county's only urban district corporation takes place—by law—every five years.

The Bethesda Urban Partnership is up for its regular evaluation—held every five years—on Monday afternoon, Nov. 18.

The Montgomery County Council's Planning, Housing and Economic Development Committee will discuss a report on the Bethesda Urban Partnership from the Office of Legislative Oversight at 2 p.m.

The partnership, which was formed in 1994, is the county's only urban district corporation, and provides services (including landscaping and maintenance) within the urban district, organizes special events, promotes downtown Bethesda and oversees operation of the Bethesda Circulator shuttle bus.

An urban district corporation can be extended for an unlimited number of additional five-year terms. But, before renewal, the Office of Legislative Oversight conducts a performance evaluation that includes feedback from property owners, business owners and residents from in and around the urban district.

Read more about the partnership and the Office of Legislative Oversight's report in this council memo.
