Oktoberfest on Bethesda Row, Trick-or-Treating on Wisconsin Circle

BOO 3! Chevy Chase Center Family Fall Celebration

  • Where: Chevy Chase Center (Wisconsin Circle, Chevy Chase)
  • When: Saturday, Oct. 26, noon to 3 p.m.
  • Price: Free.
  • Description: Celebrate fall with family and friends at Chevy Chase Center's annual fall festival "BOO 3." Live staged music by popular boy band Sidekick, a beautiful train for children's rides through the sidewalks of the center, face painters, moon bounce, trick-or-treat through stores. Google Goodies at Potomac Pizza and free cupcakes at Frosting, A Cupcakery while supplies last. And, fee pumpkins while supplies last.

Redwood's Oktoberfest

  • Where: Bethesda Row (one block west of Woodmont Avenue between Bethesda Avenue and Elm Street).
  • When: Saturday, Oct. 26, 1 to 7 p.m.
  • Price: Tickets are $29 for a limited time and can be purchased by visiting www.redwoodbethesdaevents.com.
  • Description: Join in on the fun at Redwood Restaurant's third Oktoberfest, featuring local and craft beers including DC Brau, Flying Dog, New Belgium, Starr Hill, Sam Adams and Miller Lite. Enjoy live music with performances by Taylor Carson, Cheaper Than Therapy, South Rail Band and the WeatherVanes. Local Restaurants will serve festive fall food. New this year, a Kid Zone will have a petting zoo, an arts-and-crafts area and a kid band performance from the Bach to Rock music school. A portion of the proceeds with go toward the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. 

The Halloween Show

  • Where: Puppet Co. Playhouse, Glen Echo Park, 7300 MacArthur Blvd., Glen Echo.
  • When: Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 26 and 27, at 10 a.m.
  • Price: $5. (All individuals must have a ticket, including babes-in-arms.)
  • Description: Some "kreatures" might scare you but not these cute guys and gals—proving you can't judge a book by its cover! This 30-minute Halloween puppet performance is part of the Tiny Tots program, for children up through age 4. The lights stay on, the doors stay open, and everyone has a great time!  

Peter and the Wolf

  • When: Through Nov. 22.; Thursdays and Fridays at 10 and 11:30 a.m., and Saturdays and Sundays at 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.
  • Price: $10. Buy tickets online.
  • Description: This classic good-vs.-bad tale (40 minutes in length) starts with an introduction to the themes in the work as well as to the musical instruments used to signify each of the characters in the story. Then, it takes up the story of Peter and his animal friends and their attempts to capture wily wolf Old Lupus. This one-man marionette show is performed by puppetmaster Christopher Piper. Recommended for children in kindergarten through sixth grade.
