This Weekend Near Bethesda, Chevy Chase: Civil War Comes to Montgomery, 'Cat in the Hat,' Comedy, Jazz and More

  • Where: 111 W. Montgomery Ave., Rockville.
    When: Saturday, June 29, 10 a.m.
  • Description: The Civil War Comes to Rockville, part of Heritage Montgomery’s annual Heritage Days Weekend, commemorates the 150th anniversary of Confederate General J.E.B. Stuart’s raid on the town. Reenactments, music, lectures, crafts, walking tours and more will be featured at the Beall-Dawson House and Grounds, Historic Red Brick Courthouse, Christ Episcopal Church and Rockville Town Square. 
  • Cost: Free.

Heritage Days Weekend

  • Where: 12535 Milestone Manor Ln., Germantown.
  • When: Saturday, June 29, 12 pm.
    Description: Programs will focus on history, outdoor recreation, children’s and family activities, music and fun. Many sites will offer living history presentations, games and crafts, refreshments, music and history, too.
    Cost: Free.

Dr. Seuss's Cat in the Hat

  • When: Saturday, June 29, 4:30 p.m.
  • Description: Children’s play based on the book by Dr. Seuss.

Storytime on Lake Needwood: Beavers Gnaw

  • Where: 15700 Needwood Lake Circle, Rockville.
  • When: Friday, June 28, 1 p.m.
    Description: Visitors (ages 3 and up) are invited to take a story-time cruise around the lake aboard the Needwood Queen pontoon boat.
    Cost: $2 per adult, $6 per child.

Vegetable Gardening Summer Open House

  • Where: 18410 Muncaster Rd., Derwood.
    When: Saturday, June 29, 8:30 a.m. 
    Description: Montgomery County Master Gardeners will host a free open house about vegetable gardening at the University of MD Extension/Montgomery County. Sessions will include growing grapes and making wine, fall and winter vegetable gardening, pests and diseases, seed saving and cooking with herbs. Attendees will be able to purchase plants, have gardening questions answered, and tour the Demonstration Garden. Food will be available for purchase. No registration is required. 
    Cost: Free.

Comedy and Jazz Evening

  • Where: 8818 Piney Branch Rd., Silver Spring.
    When: Friday, June 28, 7 p.m.
    Description: Clifton Park Baptist Church presents talented comedian Sean Sarvis for an evening of laughter, an ensemble of local talented jazz musicians and a delicious soul food meal. Must be 21 or older to attend.
    Cost: $19.99 per person.

Kensington Summer Concert

  • Where: Howard Avenue Park, across from the farmers market at the Kensington Train Station.
  • When: Saturday, June 29, 10 a.m.
    Description: Rita Clarke and the Naturals play rhythm and blues music.
    Cost: Free.
