Additional Highlights and Information from HGC website:

The service is part of a nationwide effort by Heeding God’s Call (HGC).  The local Greater Washington chapter (HGCGW) represents support to end gun violence among the multi-faith communities in the metropolitan area in Washington, DC, in Maryland, and in Northern Virginia.  Members and supporters of HGCGW have demonstrated in front of Realco nearly every Monday for an hour.  Below is information on the group’s ongoing effort at Realco:

Based on information obtained from a Washington Post investigation, “The Hidden Life of Guns,” and an article on October 24, 2010, “Realco Guns tied to 2,500 crimes in D.C. and Maryland,” by David S. Fallis in the Washington Post, HGC Greater Washington decided to focus efforts on Realco Guns in District Heights, MD, for public actions in an effort to convince the gun shop owner to act in a more responsible manner in screening.  According to The Post, Realco Guns in District Heights sold 86 guns linked to homicides within the last twenty years with 300 guns sold there being linked to non-fatal shootings, as of 2010.  In that article Major Andy Ellis of the Prince George’s (MD) Police Department is quoted as saying, “I can only imagine how much lower our violent-crime rate would be if Realco sold shoes instead of guns.”
