Anthony Benlizar, 17, was among three who died in the Beltway crash.
One of the victims in a fatal Christmas Eve crash on the Capital Beltway was Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School senior Anthony Benlizar, The Gazette reports. Benlizar, 17, of the 1900 block of East West Highway in Silver Spring, and Jasmine A. Fajemisin, 30, of the 1900 block of Rosemary Hills Drive in Silver Spring, both died the night of the crash, according to Trooper Baum of the Maryland State Police. Florentina J. Gonzalez, 72, also of the 1900 block of East West Highway in Silver Spring, died Jan. 1 at Innova Fairfax Hospital, Baum said. The Gazette reports that Gonzalez was Benlizar's grandmother. The accident occurred at around 7:30 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
A vehicular accident closed all lanes of the westbound Outer Loop of the Capital Beltway near the Connecticut Avenue exit (No. 33) on Christmas Eve, according to Montgomery County police. The accident may have been fatal, police added. County police received a call about the accident at 7:36 p.m. Nearly an hour later, police still were investigating at the scene of the accident. No further information had been released at that time.

The pedestrian suffered injuries and was transported to the hospital, according to police.
A car struck a pedestrian in downtown Bethesda early Sunday evening, according to Montgomery County police. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue responded to Wisconsin and Woodmont avenues at 5:15 p.m., police said. The pedestrian was injured and taken to a hospital. No further details on the victim were immediately available. The accident shut down southbound Route 355 in the area for about an hour, police said. Accident happened near Sangamore Road and MacArthur Boulevard.
A passenger was seriously injured in a Friday morning car collision near MacArthur Boulevard and Sangamore Road, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service. Responders were dispatched at 9:14 a.m., according to MCFRS spokeswoman Beth Anne Nesselt. A driver and a passenger in one of the vehicles, both adult males, were transported to the hospital, Nesselt said. The passenger suffered serious, non-life-threatening injuries and was considered a trauma patient, Nesselt said. The driver was transported for an evaluation. The driver of the second vehicle declined transport to the hospital, Nesselt said.

Update, 8:11 p.m.: Montgomery County police are identifying the contractor killed by his own pickup truck in Bethesda Wednesday afternoon as Concepcion Zavala, 66, of the 1600 block of Lamont Street in Northwest Washington, D.C. Zavala, who was working at a home in the 5300 block of Albermarle Street, parked his company's Chevrolet Silverado around 10:30 a.m., police said in a press release. Later, around 2:30 p.m., the car began to roll down the street, police said. Zavala attempted to stop the truck, but became pinned in the driver's side door opening and was killed when the truck collided with a stone wall. Update, Jan 2., 10:46 a.m.: Eighteen-year-old Kaitlin Marie Gallagher and 20-year-old Nicholas Scott Clayton were killed when the Chevrolet Trail Blazer they were riding in crashed into a tree in the early morning hours of Jan. 1, Montgomery County police said in a statement Tuesday. Clayton was riding in the front passenger seat of the Trail Blazer and Gallagher was seated behind him in the right rear passenger seat. Police weren't able to determine the addresses of either Gallagher or Clayton. Update, 3:50p.m.: The intersection at River Road and Wilson Lane has been cleared following a late morning trash truck crash, Fire and Rescue reports. Original post: The driver of a trash truck became trapped inside the vehicle after colliding with a tree near River Road and Wilson Lane this morning, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue. It took about 15 minutes to extricate the driver from the vehicle, according to Capt. Oscar Garcia, a spokesman for county Fire and Rescue.
