Area University to Offer 'Fifty Shades of Grey' Class in 2013

Undergraduate offering to be part of American Studies program at American University.

  Fifty Shades of Grey, E.L. James' best selling trilogy, can be found on countless Kindles, Nooks and nightstands across the nation, and starting this spring, in American University's (AU) classrooms as well, states a story in the Eagle, AU's newspaper. The American Studies program in the College of Arts and Sciences at the university, located just across the Maryland boundary in Washington, will offer the undergraduate course. The course description promises to explore the "interplay of sexuality, health, public relations and marketing," describing the topics to be studied as including "feminism, addiction, social media marketing and sexual expression versus sexual repression." Gasp! Whips and chains! Oh no! So barbaric (this is continuing from our enlightened posts on another Patch piece about banning spanking). We must ban whips and chains! And ban 50 Shades! In all seriousness though - I agree with you: pretty dumb idea for a class, regardless of who it's trying to appeal to. Reports: Suspect's DNA Found on Murder Weapon in Marcum Homicide

FBI affidavit details evidence against slain American University professor's former yoga and Spanish instructor.

An FBI affidavit filed this month in federal court is detailing evidence against the man accused of killing popular American University professor Sue Marcum, according to reports in the Washington Post and the Washington Examiner. The DNA of Jorge Rueda Landeros was discovered on what investigators believe to be the murder weapon, according to the reports, though the affidavit doesn’t specify what authorities believe the weapon to be. The news was first reported by the Washington Examiner. Marcum was found dead in her Bethesda home last fall in what police first believed was a burglary gone wrong. Report: Suspect in Marcum Homicide 'Hiding In Plain Sight' in Mexico

WTOP is reporting Jorge Rueda Landeros is working as a yoga instructor in Juarez.

Citing unnamed Montgomery County law enforcement sources, WTOP is reporting that the suspect in the Sue Marcum homicide case is "hiding in plain sight" in Mexico. Jorge Rueda Landeros, 41, a resident of Juarez, Mexico, is charged in an international warrant in the murder of American University professor Sue Marcum, who was found dead in her Bethesda home Oct. 25. Police initially characterized the murder as a robbery gone wrong, but later named Landeros as the primary suspect. People close to Marcum said the professor was close with Landeros, and he tutored her privately in yoga and Spanish, though it was not believed to be a romantic relationship.
