Harris Teeter In, Dunkin' Donuts Out: Bethesda's Month in Food

A roundup of the top food headlines this month in Bethesda.

February was a newsy month in the Bethesda food scene. Patch broke the news this month that Harris Teeter has signed a lease to be the grocery tenant at a new mixed-use development at 8300 Wisconsin Ave. The new grocery store is expected to open in 2015.  Also this month, we reported that Dunkin' Donuts is closing its Bethesda Avenue location after Bethesda Row management company Federal Realty did not renew their lease, which expires in May. The coffee shop has two new downtown Bethesda locations in the works. There was more news out of Friendship Heights from celebrity chef Bryan Voltaggio, Bethesda favorite Persimmon re-opened with a new look, Aroma Espresso debuted at the Montgomery Mall, and the new Prohibition-style bar and grill …

Aroma Espresso Opens Friday

Westfield Montgomery Mall says the store should be serving customers by the end of the week.

Delays have pushed the opening of Westfield Montgomery Mall's newest coffee shop since its debut was announced in September, but Aroma Espresso Bar should open Friday. Joanna Caputi, spokesperson for Westfield mall, said construction delays have pushed the opening of the store, which was expected to open in November of 2012. The store should open Friday, she said. It is located on the lower level of the mall near Old Navy, and will feature patio seating. The restaurant will serve soups, salads and pastries, along with its espresso selections.

End of January Opening Planned for Aroma Espresso Bar

The scent of a new coffee joint wafts ever closer.

Delays have pushed the opening of Westfield Montgomery Mall's newest coffee shop since its debut was announced in September, but Aroma Espresso Bar could open in two weeks. According to local restaurateur Eddie Benaim, who is heading the expansion of Israel's largest restaurant franchise into Westfield Mall, the coffee shop should be open within two weeks. "Construction is not completely done on the mall side but it should be done by the weekend," Benaim said. "We're probably going to do a soft opening on Jan. 27, as of now, unless there are unforeseen complications. We will plan something for a grand opening after it's open." Aroma Espresso Bar Applies For Liquor License

The new Westfield Montgomery Mall eatery has pushed its opening date to mid-December.

  Aroma Espresso Bar, slated to open in mid-December, could be serving beer and wine, alongside a menu that includes soups, salads, breakfast and pastries. Emily De Titta of Montgomery County’s Department of Liquor Control confirmed that Aroma Espresso Bar opening in the Westfield Montgomery Mall has applied for a liquor license. The business is scheduled for a hearing on Dec. 20.  Multiple Aroma Espresso Bar locations in New York also serve beer and wine, according to its website. Robert Dyer first reported that the new Montgomery County location had applied for a liquor license. The franchise, Israel’s largest, has become an anticipated new addition to Westfield mall. Aroma Espresso Bar, which serves up coffee, soups, salads and pastries, is set to open in mid-November, according to the report. The news was first reported by Bethesda blogger Robert Dyer. Aroma also offers frozen drinks, juices and a breakfast menu that includes egg dishes, French toast, Muesli and oatmeal, according to its website.
