Update: Arrest Made in Attempted Robbery Case in Capital Crescent Tunnel

A juvenile attempted to rob one juvenile and assaulted another on Saturday, Sept. 29, marking the third assault this year in the tunnel, which runs beneath Wisconsin Avenue. Police have stepped up surveillance in the area.

Update (Friday, Oct. 5): On Thursday, Oct. 4, Montgomery County Police Department "detectives arrested and charged a 16-year-old male from Rockville with the attempted robbery and 2nd-degree assault of the two juvenile victims," according to a county police statement. Police had received a tip from the community about a possible suspect, the statement added. In all, three juveniles were victims in this assault: "two 16-year-old males from Bethesda, and another juvenile," according to the police. They "were walking on the trail [on Saturday, Sept. 29, at about 8:50 p.m.] when they were approached by a group of approximately five to six teenage males. Attempted Assault Reported At Bethesda Rehabilitation Center

A man drove his car towards a group of staff in an apparent attempt to strike an employee, police said.

A man drove his car over a curb in an apparent attempt to strike a female employee at a Bethesda rehabilitation center last month, according to Montgomery County police. Fayz Ali, 52, of the 14000 block of Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring, was arrested April 27 following the April 20 incident, according to Officer Rebecca Innocenti, a police spokeswoman. Police said Ali had been visiting a family member at the Bethesda Health and Rehab Center at 5721 Grosvenor Lane April 20. He attempted to assault a male and female employee inside the facility after being asked to leave, and was escorted outside of the building, according to police. 'Potomac River Rapist' Continues to Elude FBI

Authorities say recent publicity blitz has produced strong leads in the investigation.

Authorities say fewer than 10 men have volunteered to submit DNA samples for analysis after law enforcement officials began a blitz campaign last year to track down a suspect dubbed the "Potomac River Rapist." The Associated Press reports "investigators have met with some men," and analysis of the DNA is underway. Police are looking for a man they believe is connected to nine attacks against women between 1991 and 1998, most of which occurred in Montgomery County. He is also believed to be responsible for the Georgetown murder of Christine Mirzayan on Aug. 1, 1998. Gaithersburg Shooting Suspect Arrested

Daniel Floyd Lucas is charged with three counts each of first-degree assault and reckless endangerment in connection with a Jan. 7 brawl during which a 19-year-old was shot in the face.

The 19-year-old fugitive charged in a Jan. 7 shooting in Gaithersburg is in custody and is headed to court next month facing charges that together carry up to 90 years in jail if convicted. Daniel Floyd Lucas, of Rockville, was arrested Jan. 13, a week after police say he got into an fight in a townhouse in the 1200 block of Knoll Mist Lane that ended with another 19-year-old man shot in the face as he tried to intervene. Montgomery County Police asked the public for help finding Lucas—who has a history of running from authorities—but have not announced his subsequent arrest.
