The victims were assaulted in the two incidents on Hampden Lane and MacArthur Boulevard.
Two robberies were reported in Bethesda on Saturday, March 30. In both instances, the victims were assaulted, according to a recent crime summary. The first robbery happened around 4:30 a.m. in the 7000 block of MacArthur Boulevard. A man assaulted a victim and unsuccessfully tried to steal property, according to a recent crime summary. The robber didn't display a weapon during the attack, which happened outside, according to police spokeswoman Angela Cruz. The victim identified the suspect, who is known to police, Cruz said. There have been no arrests so far in the case. Another victim was robbed and assaulted around 10:30 p.m. in the 4900 block of Hampden Lane. The victim was attacked by three men wearing dark clothing. Tyran Mcelrath pleaded guilty to a Chevy Chase, DC, burglary and assault, The Northwest Current reported.
A man arrested in a Chevy Chase, DC, burglary last fall pleaded guilty to the charges on Monday, Feb. 4, The Northwest Current reported. Tyran Mcelrath—18 and of Southeast Washington, DC, WUSA9 reported—admitted "to punching the woman in the face until she lost consciousness after she 'politely' confronted him in her home on the 3500 block of McKinley Street on the morning of Nov. 6, 2012," The Current reported from a news release issued by the U.S. Attorney's Office. Last November, The Washington Post reported on the burglary, saying that the suspect entered the victim's house, assaulted her and stole a computer, according to DC police. More robberies and assaults have been reported YTD in 2012 than this time last year, according to crime statistics provided by Montgomery County Police's second district commander.
More robberies and assaults have been reported in Mongomery County police's second district through the end of September in 2012 than at the same time last year, according to recent crime statistics. However, property crimes—including residential burglaries, car thefts and thefts from autos—are on the decline, according to statistics provided by second district Commander Capt. David Falcinelli. The second district includes Bethesda, Chevy Chase, and portions of southern Rockville and Kensington. During the first three quarters of 2012, 47 robberies have been reported in the second district.
