Chevy Chase residents Sean and Andrea Nix Fine received national attention when they won the Oscar for "Best Documentary Short" last month at the Academy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles. Now, locals will get the chance to check out the film, Inocente, on April 11 at the historic Avalon Theatre (5612 Connecticut Ave. NW, Washington, DC). There will be two screenings: 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. The Fines will introduce the film and will host a question-and-answer session after each showing. It's been a long road, but the Avalon Theatre’s fundraising campaign is complete. The Avalon Legacy Campaign recently reached its goal of $2 million, according to an email campaign leaders sent to supporters of the historic theater on Connecticut Avenue in Chevy Chase, Washington, DC. "The campaign dollars were most recently put to work installing an updated, energy-efficient HVAC system in the downstairs theater. At the same time, finishing touches are being made to the design of the long-awaited elevator project. Renovation of the downstairs lobby of the Avalon 2, including new restrooms, is part of this project, which will begin in 2013," the email message reported. Connecticut Avenue’s own Avalon Theatre will be the location of the premiere of a documentary “Guilty Until Proven Innocent," which explores family court issues, on Tuesday at 8 p.m. "Through gripping first-hand accounts, 'Guilty Until Proven Innocent' relays what's really going on in family court,” says Michael McCormick, executive director of the American Coalition for Fathers and Children. “Millions of parents and children are directly impacted by court and agency rulings.
