New Varsity Football Head Coach at B-CC

Josh Singer, coach of the Barons' junior varsity football team for the past three years, will take over as coach of the varsity football team starting in the 2013-2014 school year.

New this week: The Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School varsity football team has a new coach, following the resignation, last November, of Rich Noland, who coached the team for three years. Starting in the 2013-2014 school year, the new head coach for the Barons' varsity football team will be Josh Singer—B-CC teacher, junior varsity wrestling assistant coach and the junior varsity football coach for the past three years, The Gazette reported. The school's athletic director announced the news in an email to The Gazette on Monday. "In 2011, Noland led the Barons to their first postseason appearance since 1995. They also made playoffs last fall for a second straight year," The Gazette added. Noland will continue to teach psychology and history …

Bethesda-Chevy Chase Football Coach Rich Noland Resigns

Noland leaves the Barons after three seasons.

Bethesda-Chevy Chase (B-CC) High School football coach Rich Noland resigned Tuesday, following three years in the position and just three weeks after the team's second consecutive appearance in the Maryland 4A playoffs, according to The Washington Post. Noland informed B-CC athletic director Jim Tapley of his decision Tuesday morning, informing his players later that afternoon, according to The Post's story. While Noland will continue to teach psychology and history, he told The Post that he wanted to spend more time with his two children. “In a few more years…they’re going to be in high school and gone,” Noland stated. “You don’t get those years back.” Noland also shared that he believes that the football program has developed a “winning …

B-CC Clinches First Playoff Berth in 16 Years With Huge Victory at Walter Johnson

Barons grab fourth seed and face unbeaten powerhouse Quince Orchard next week.

Do you believe in miracles? Despite a series of early-season struggles and a complex playoff formula, the Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School Barons won their fourth straight game last night defeating Walter Johnson High School, 28-14, to make the county football playoffs for the first time in 16 years. For that to happen, everything had to fall into place just right on Friday night. Amazingly, it did, as Walt Whitman High School was knocked out with a 36-8 loss to Paint Branch High School, and highly-touted Clarksburg High School dropped a thriller to Springbrook High School, 20-13, in a game that went right down to the wire. The Barons, now with a 6-4 record overall, won’t have much time to rest on their laurels, however. They now must …

B-CC Barons Could Clinch 1st Football Playoff Spot in 16 Years

Transfer quarterback Cory Applequist leads team to big win over Clarksburg.

While the Redskins’ season has turned into a disaster and Maryland is close to an all-time low point on the gridiron, the Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School Barons are giving local football fans something to cheer for on the high school level this season. In one of the biggest upsets of the Montgomery County high school season, B-CC's varsity football team stunned 10th-ranked Clarksburg High School, 30-12, last Friday night to put the Battlin’ Barons in a position to capture their first playoff spot in 16 years—if they can win this Friday evening at Walter Johnson High School. In the Clarksburg victory, quarterback Cory Applequist rushed for 170 yards and scored a key touchdown on a play out of the triple option late in the first half, …
