Get caught up with the food scene in Montgomery County and adjacent Washington, DC, neighborhoods with "1 Meat, 3 Sides." This week, a famed deli's move to Montgomery County takes center plate: One Meat: A second location for Baltimore’s famed Attman’s Deli will open in May at the Cabin John Shopping Center in Potomac.  "According to Marc Attman, the Montgomery County location has been years in the making, after numerous Potomac locals made the hour-long trek to Baltimore for a Pastrami sandwich and to hint that a closer location would be welcomed with open arms," Potomac Patch reported. "People have asked us for years to come to Potomac," Attman told Potomac Patch. "They come into Baltimore for the deli, for catering, and always wish we…

Feeding Your Presidential Appetite

Local businesses help gauge the election through food and drink.

While choosing a candidate to vote for in the 2012 presidential campaign may seem daunting to some people, businesses in the area want to make sure that you are well-fed and well-caffeinated (and maybe even help predict the outcome) as you debate your selection.   BGR: The Burger Joint Reviving its popular campaign from 2008, BGR began offering menu selections celebrating the candidates’ hometowns. BGR has locations in Bethesda, Potomac, Columbia and Gaithersburg.   California Tortilla The popular Mexican restaurant has taken a slightly different tactic, honoring the candidates' personal lives: California Tortilla has locations in Silver Spring, Rockville, Gaithersburg, Bethesda, Olney, Annapolis and Potomac. Sept. 18: National Cheeseburger Day

Keep the grill out just a bit longer; you may need it for National Cheeseburger Day.

Americans love cheeseburgers, evidenced by the number of burger joints in communities big and small. Sept. 18 is National Cheeseburger Day and what better excuse to bite into a juicy burger topped with American, cheddar or Swiss. To celebrate National Cheeseburger Day, here are five fun facts to bite into: 1. The largest cheeseburger ever made in the world weighed in at a whopping 777 pounds. Created June 2, 2011 at the Alameda County Fair in California by Juicy's, the giant burger also featured 50 pounds of cheese. The bun alone weighed in at 272 pounds. Fairgoers were able to purchase 99-cent portions of the estimated 1.375 million calorie burger to eat. Complete coverage of the event (including pictures) can be found here. 2.  As we …

Fun Buy of the Day: ‘Snooki’ Burger and ‘Baby’ Slider

BGR—a Chevy Chase Patch Readers' Choice pick—celebrates the birth of Snooki's new baby Lorenzo with—you guessed it—a signature burger.

Remember the wildly popular ‘Snooki’ burger at BGR? You know, the one that paid homage to Jersey Shore reality star Nicole Polizzi? Well, it’s back, but this time it’s being served up with a free “baby” slider on the side in honor of the recent birth of Polizzi’s son, Lorenzo. Back for a limited time, the ‘Snooki’ burger features a beef patty topped with a fresh-grilled jalapeno, a slice of Philadelphia cream cheese, and BGR’s signature mojo sauce, all served on top of a toasted brioche bun. The “baby” slider is a mini version, just like little Lorenzo. What better way to celebrate his birth? You were doing that anyway, right? BGR—a Chevy Chase Patch Readers' Choice pick for best burger in the area (BGR tied with Clyde's of Chevy Chase and…

Fun Buy of the Day: "Katie Gold Standard" French Fries

BGR is re-naming its "Gold Standard" fries in honor of Bethesda gold medalist Katie Ledecky.

File this one under “Katie fever.” Bethesda’s BGR will re-name its “Gold Standard” french fries in honor of Katie Ledecky, the Bethesda swimming phenom who took home the gold medal in the women’s 800m race in London last week. Ledecky made a splash on the international scene with her stunning Olympic win, and the rising Stone Ridge sophomore’s fan base has been steadily growing at home and abroad. The fries, dubbed “Katie Gold Standard,” will be on sale from Aug. 13 through the end of the month. So, maybe french fries aren’t as cool a namesake as adorable baby cheetahs at the National Zoo. But the proceeds will go to a great cause—the USA Swimming Foundation, the philanthropic arm of USA Swimming that encourages kids across the country to …
