BGR Burger Named Third Best In World

This month, BGR is serving up the burger that was named third best at the World Burger Championships in Las Vegas.

Want to taste test a world champion burger? Look no further than BGR. The Burger Joint's entry in the World Burger Championships last month took home third place -- and the title of third best burger in the world. “The World Champion” is a prime dry-aged burger topped with bacon/onion jam, fried egg, cheese and pineapple, according to BGR reps. This month, BGR is featuring the winning creation as their burger of the month. The Burger Joint was selected in October to compete in the World Food Championships, described by QSR Magazine as the "highest-stakes food competition in the world." The event, which took place Nov. 1 through 4 in Las Vegas, was hosted by Travel Channel personality Adam Richman. Competitors faced off in multiple food …

I have been to BGR twice, once in Bethesda and once in Washingtonian Square. [The latter location took forever to open, but it is right by the theaters -- very convenient.] The burger from the Bethesda joint was disappointing, but the french fries and milk shakes were very good. Fries are not easy to do well, but if you can't make a delicious milk shake you need to find something else to do with …   more ›

BGR to Mark National Cheeseburger Day with Slider Eating Contest

Tuesday, contestants will battle to eat the most sliders in 10 minutes.

In honor of National Cheeseburger Day on Tuesday, Bethesda’s BGR: The Burger Joint will be challenging eight to 10 hungry souls to eat as many cheeseburger sliders as their stomachs can handle in a 10-minute timeframe. Each contestant will sit behind a pile of 50 cheese sliders and compete to win a cash prize. Contestants will also have a chance to qualify for the national finals, which will be held in Washington, DC, on National Hamburger Day in May.   “We’re having various qualifying rounds at BGRs all around the country.  Then next year we’ll have the world championship in Washington, DC, very similar to the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest in Coney Island,” said BGR owner Mark Bucher. “Then we will make it an annual thing every year on …

Fun Buy of the Day: ‘Snooki’ Burger and ‘Baby’ Slider

BGR—a Chevy Chase Patch Readers' Choice pick—celebrates the birth of Snooki's new baby Lorenzo with—you guessed it—a signature burger.

Remember the wildly popular ‘Snooki’ burger at BGR? You know, the one that paid homage to Jersey Shore reality star Nicole Polizzi? Well, it’s back, but this time it’s being served up with a free “baby” slider on the side in honor of the recent birth of Polizzi’s son, Lorenzo. Back for a limited time, the ‘Snooki’ burger features a beef patty topped with a fresh-grilled jalapeno, a slice of Philadelphia cream cheese, and BGR’s signature mojo sauce, all served on top of a toasted brioche bun. The “baby” slider is a mini version, just like little Lorenzo. What better way to celebrate his birth? You were doing that anyway, right? BGR Will Fry Your Turkey For Free This Thanksgiving

BGR The Burger Joint in Bethesda will be undertaking the dangerous task of frying turkeys for residents from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Thanksgiving day.

This year it may be safe to say that frying a turkey is an established unsafe Thanksgiving trend. The fried turkey has been lauded for its tender and moist meat and crispy crust, but the fire hazard caused by the cooking process makes it a dangerous cooking endeavor. The process of popping a bird into a massive pot of hot oil and frying it is believed to have begun during the 1930s in Louisiana and Kentucky, according to Esquire Magazine. The trend then gained notoriety in the mid-90s when celebrity chefs like Martha Stewart and Emeril fried turkeys on their shows. However, a long history has still not made it safe to fry your own turkey. In fact, the National Fire Protection Association discourages people from undertaking outdoor turkey …
