Remodeled Bethesda Row Cinema Opens May 3

The remodeled theater will have a full-service bar, luxury seating and an expanded concession menu.

The newly remodeled Bethesda Row Cinema is set to open May 3 with new amenities such as a full-service bar, luxury reserved seating in each auditorium, three-dimensional projection theaters and an expanded concession menu, according to theater spokeswoman Stephanie Kagan. "Each of the eight auditoriums has been outfitted with new screens, sound systems and special leather chairs designed to provide maximum comfort to patrons. Plus, the theatre has installed a new digital system that will provide a satellite feed for live domestic and international performances," according to a statement from the theater, which has been owned and operated by Landmark Theatres since 2002. Report: Bethesda Max Brenner To Be 'Sweets-Only' Shop

The chocolate chain's Bethesda location won't be a full-service restaurant like other U.S. shops, Bethesda Magazine reports.

Unlike the chocolate chain's locations in New York City, Philadelphia, Las Vegas and Boston, Bethesda Row's new Max Brenner won't be a full-service restaurant, Bethesda Magazine reports. The Woodmont Avenue location will be the first "sweets-only" location in the U.S. for the chain, according to the report. The shop will feature a walk-up counter where patrons can order chocolate and coffee drinks, fondue, and other chocolate concoctions, and a server will bring the treats to their table, according to Bethesda Magazine. The shop, which will seat 70-80 and feature retail, should be open by mid-June. Bethesda Central Farm Market To Celebrate Re-Opening

The Bethesda Central Farm Market will re-open at Bethesda Elementary this Sunday for its spring season and will also be celebrating its fifth anniversary.

The Bethesda Central Farm Market’s foray into the spring season and extended hours will take place this Sunday, with a re-opening at Bethesda Elementary School. This year will also mark the fifth anniversary for the market, which food business veterans Mitch Berliner and Ann Brody Cove started in 2008. Since opening on Elm Street, the market has opened a second location in Rockville, near the White Flint Metro Station. The market moved to Bethesda Elementary last year. The location feaures more accessible parking for patrons and more space for vendors, according to market operators. Bethesda Row Spring Restaurant Week Kicks Off Monday

Get ready for a feeding frenzy as Bethesda Row kicks off its Spring Restaurant Week Monday. 13 popular Row restaurants will be participating this year, including Jaleo, Mussel Bar, and the recently-opened Vino Volo. Diners can enjoy a three-course lunch for $15 and a three-course dinner for $30. Check out menu offerings including lobster macaroni and cheese and pan seared jumbo scallops at the American Tap Room, steak frites and slow-roasted pork shoulder at Mon Ami Gabi and Thai curry mussels and grilled salmon at Assaggi. Max Brenner To Bring 'Pure Chocolate Bar' To Bethesda Row

The CEO of the chocolate chain speaks with Bethesda blogger Robert Dyer.

Max Brenner will be bringing a chocolate bar to Bethesda Row as a part of the shop's new location, chocolate chain CEO Sam Borgese confirmed in a statement to Bethesda blogger Robert Dyer. “Bethesda Row has unique style and taste and we’re excited to introduce it to our chocolate culture," Borgese told Dyer. "The location will premiere our new and exciting pure Chocolate Bar, a concept that focuses heavily on our famous sweets, desserts, pastries and beverages. Signs announcing the shop's arrival were posted on the storefront Wednesday, according to the report.  The company has locations across the country and in Israel, Singapore, Australia and the Philippines, according to its website. Stores feature a chocolate "bar," where patrons can taste test offerings like truffle cream, pralines, pastries and cookies. Get 'Icky' With Kid-Friendly Event on Bethesda Row Tuesday

Games, activities and a 12-foot glass truck are part of the event, planned by Clorox to promote the new wiki-style dictionary of messy situations.

Clorox representatives will stop by Bethesda Row Tuesday in a 12-foot glass truck to promote the company's new 'Ick-tionary' with games and activities for parents and kids. The wiki-style 'Ick-tionary' details the messy situations parents may be familiar with, like 'Spillates' -- stretching excercises from wiping up spills -- or "potty maiming," when potty training goes awry. Silver Spring mom blogger Jessica McFadden of A Parent in Silver Spring will be on hand at the event, which will include interactive word-play games, iPad stations, coupons and giveaways. The Clorox Ick-tionary truck will be parked on Bethesda Lane from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Monologue Fest Returns To Ri Ra

Judges will determine the winner, but audience members will choose who advances to the final round.

The popular Monologue Fest, a fundraiser for regional professional theater group Unexpected Stage, is returning to Ri Ra April 1. Nearly a dozen actors will compete for a $100 prize. A panel of judges who are well-known in the area's theater scene will determine the winner, but the audience will get the chance to choose who advances to the final round. Judges include Arena Stage Casting Director and Artistic Associate Daniel Pruksarnukul, Helen Hayes Award-winning actress Donna Migliaccio, Arena Stage Director of Marketing Neal Racioppo, and Monologue Fest 2012 winner Dorea Schmidt.  Tickets will be available at the door only for the event, which drew a packed house last year. Report: Barnes & Noble Chairman Seeks To Buy Retail Stores

Leonard Riggio has made a bid for the store's retail assets, including the Bethesda location.

Barnes & Noble Inc. Chairman Leonard Riggio is seeking to buy the bookselling giant's retail assets, CNN Money reported. Should the bid be approved, the sale would include the Bethesda location. According to the report, the bookstores have struggled as the popularity of e-readers increases. Holiday sales at the company's bookstores and websites dropped nearly 11 percent last year, according to the report. Barnes & Noble said it has put together an independent committee to review the proposal and to oversee any negotiations, The Los Angeles Times reported. The company in January said it would close some of its retail stores over the next 10 years, though a spokeswoman told Patch that there were no plans to close the Bethesda location. The …
