The new post office will not affect the operation or location of the post office at 6900 Wisconsin Ave.
Bethesda is slated to get another post office, and the U.S. Postal Service is asking residents for advice on where to locate it. The new post office will be about 2,000 square feet, will offer retail and customer service, and will have post office boxes. "We’re talking about a small, storefront operation," Richard Hancock, a real estate specialist for the Postal Service, told a small group of Bethesda residents at a meeting Wednesday evening at the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Regional Services Center. The new post office won't replace anything, and has nothing to do with last year's closure of two Bethesda post offices (at 7001 Arlington Rd. and 7400 Wisconsin Ave.) to consolidate their operations at one location, 6900 Wisconsin Ave. "I’m not …

New location at 6900 Wisconsin Ave. has been open for about a week, but patrons worry about the lack of convenient parking.
A new downtown Bethesda post office has opened up on Wisconsin Avenue, but there’s just one problem—there’s no parking. The United States Postal Service is closing the two downtown Bethesda post offices at 7001 Arlington Rd. and 7400 Wisconsin Ave., and consolidating them at the new location at 6900 Wisconsin Ave. The consolidation is part of a nationwide effort by USPS to consolidate or close post offices to help face declining revenues. USPS first announced its consolidation plan at a community meeting last July, saying it was on the hunt for a central, downtown location with parking. Residents also drove home the importance of keeping the new post office in a location accessible to Metro and bus transit. While the new location, across …

Post offices at Arlington Road and Wisconsin Avenue will close by June, The Gazette reports.
A new Bethesda post office will be located at 6900 Wisconsin Avenue, The Gazette reported this week, citing a U.S. Postal Service spokeswoman. The postal service announced last summer it planned to close the downtown Bethesda offices at Arlington Road and Wisconsin Avenue and open a new retail location in downtown Bethesda. The move is part of a nationwide effort by USPS to consolidate or close post offices in the face of declining revenues. USPS will vacate the offices at 7001 Arlington Road and 7400 Wisconsin Avenue by June, according to The Gazette. The new retail location is “as close as we could get” to the current post office at 7400 Wisconsin, Dennis Perry, a real estate specialist for the USPS eastern facilities service office, …

I agree with Kevin C re the Arlington Road site. What genius selected the current Wisconsin Avenue site, which has NO off-street parking at the site, NO curbside drop-off mailboxes, and a hostile owner of the adjacent parking lot who employs predatory towing services to snatch cars of persons only trying to drop off mail? Is the Postal Service too incompetent to have leased even a few spaces in …   more ›
