Water Main Break Closes Bethesda-Chevy Chase YMCA

Crews are working to determine source of leak, Y reps say.

An internal water main break has closed the Bethesda-Chevy Chase YMCA. The break has affected the facility's pool area, said Daniella Thompson, YBCC marketing director. The Y has hired a contractor to locate the source of the leak, said Brian Nason, the facility's associate executive director. “We have people here working on it to get it repaired,” Nason said. “We’re hoping we can open asap.” The Y is alerting its members through social media that the branch is closed "indefinitely" as of noon Thursday. "For health and safety reasons we are not permitted to remain open," read a post on the YBCC's Facebook page. Members can check back on the Facebook page or the YBCC website for updates. In our second "Readers' Choice" contest, in which we asked readers to tell us about their favorite workout spots, the Bethesda-Chevy Chase YMCA emerged as the most popular workout spot in the area. "What a great and diverse place to work out," wrote Patch reader June Gardner in a review of the YMCA. "There are the standards: weights, machines, etc. and then there are the multiple pools (outdoor pool year 'round: fabulous!) as well as classes, tennis, sauna, etc. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful; it feels like family," Gardner added.
