Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz says new development at Towson Square will make it a mixed-use destination to rival Montgomery County's urban centers.
Will new development make Towson a better Bethesda? Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz sure thinks so. An $85 million project under construction known as Towson Square will bring a 16-screen Cinemark movie theater, restaurant and retail space and a 862-space parking garage to a site adjacent to Towson Town Center, Towson Patch reported. And at a press conference announcing three restaurant tenants for the development—Nando’s Peri-Peri, La Tagliatella and On the Border Mexican Grill & Cantina—Kamenetz said the development would be "better than Bethesda, better than Silver Spring or whatever else [Montgomery County Executive] Ike Leggett can churn up in Montgomery County.” “[Kemenetz] mentioned Bethesda no less than half-a-dozen times…

The Box Bar and Grill has a new owner and a very new image.
You may think the Box Bar and Grill, formerly known as a Hooters-style sports bar, would be an odd choice for a venue to host an event Friday that will feature state officials, civil rights leaders and members of the recently pardoned Wilmington Ten. Allow us to explain. In November 2011, the Box opened on Old Georgetown Road with the tagline, “The Sexiest Wings in Bethesda.” The concept was to provide a sports bar that would rival Hooters, complete with "15 televisions and 31 scantily-clad waitresses in uniforms sponsored by Under Armour—think compression boy shorts with little referee shirts to go with them," the Washington Business Journal reported. The Box concept was a bit out-of-the-box for buttoned-up Bethesda, and several Patch …

By Jennifer Kelly There is rumor that has made its way from Bethesda, Maryland to Denver – and probably beyond – in less than a week. The news affects people from three or four generations. It has traveled by Facebook and email and texts. It has been on the local news. And it is triggering emotions from panic to nostalgia. Bruce Variety is closing. According to a DC local news report, the sign went up the day after Christmas. Everything half off. The rent is just too high. Remember when Bethesda was just a small town? There was Baskin-Robbins next to the A&P, the Chinese food place, the Bethesda Crab House, and Montgomery Donuts. Not much more within walking distance… except for that small strip of stores on Arlington Road that housed “…
