More than 150 competed this weekend in the Eastern Figure Skating Sectional Championships.
More than 150 skaters took to the ice this weekend at the Cabin John Ice Rink to compete in the 2012 Adult Eastern Figure Skating Sectional Championships. Hosted by Washington Figure Skating Club, skaters competed in 40 different events as part of the annual qualifying competition for the U.S. Adult Figure Skating Championships. While many of the skaters were local, the competition drew on skating clubs from 16 different states -- some traveled from as far away as Florida and California to compete in the event.
Parents battle “anything goes” attitude amongst student spectators at Cabin John Ice Rink.
Concerns about rowdy crowds at high school hockey games are rising after a fight between two student spectators last month, and parent team organizers say they’re working to combat an “anything goes” attitude among some teenagers who gather to watch the Friday evening games at the Cabin John Ice Rink. A club sport, hockey is not sanctioned by Montgomery County Public Schools, and games take place off campus at Cabin John or the Rockville Ice Arena. Whereas school administrators have the authority to punish a student who misbehaves at an on-campus, school-sanctioned sporting event, such as football, that’s not the case with hockey, said Walter Johnson High School principal Jennifer Baker. “We don’t play any role in this at all from a school…
