CalTort Fans Pick 'Street Tacos' as New Menu Item

The trio of tacos—Korean barbecue, carnitas pork and Havana chicken—will be available for a limited time, starting on Monday, May 20.

California Tortilla's fans have voted, and now there's a new option available on the eatery's menu: "Street Tacos." The new menu item—chosen by CalTort fans in an online NCAA-style "Elito 8" competition last March—will be available for a limited time, starting on May 20, according to a CalTort news statement. "Street Tacos" will be served as a trio of three mini tacos, each mini taco made with a soft corn tortilla shell: The taco trio is $6.49. A combo—the three tacos plus a 22-ounce drink and a choice of chips and queso, salsa or rice and beans—is $8.69.

April 15th has rolled around once again, and at least one Bethesda business is offering up a tax day treat. Cal-mex favorite California Tortilla is serving up a free order of chips and queso to the tax weary, a welcome reward whether you're reveling in your refund or pinching pennies after paying Uncle Sam. Just say the password -- "1040" -- when purchasing any item. The newly renovated and re-located Bethesda California Tortilla is located at 4871 Cordell Avenue, at the corner of Norfolk Avenue. Joel Mehr, one of three owners of Pete's New Haven Style Apizza, said he's now shooting for a June 1 opening for his company's fourth location. The 'Elito 8' will go head-to-head in four brackets, beginning on 'Selection Monday.'

Now burrito fans as well as basketball fans have a reason to get "mad" this March. Cal-mex chain and Bethesda favorite California Tortilla has launched an 'Elito 8' competition to determine the next limited-time menu offering. During the NCAA-style showdown, CalTort fans can vote for eight possible menu items in four brackets, leading up to the semi-finals and culminating with an April 5 championship. The "Elito 8" are being revealed "Selection Monday," March 18, on Facebook and the California Tortilla website. Each online vote will be counted as an entry into a drawing for a catered NCAA Championship viewing party for 20. The winner will be announced April 6, just in time for the big game. Cabin John CalTort Re-Opens on Valentine's Day with New Look

After an extensive re-model, Potomac's California Tortilla is boasting a modernized interior.

Nothing says love like burritos. And just in time for Valentine's Day, the California Tortilla in the Cabin John Shopping Center is re-opening with a brand-new look. The Potomac location has undergone an extensive re-model to upgrade the shop's interior. The "Cal-Mex" eatery now boasts a new color palette to match the cool green tones of CalTort's new logo. The re-design comes on the heels of the move and re-model of downtown Bethesda' California Tortilla, which re-opened with the updated look on Cordell Avenue last fall. The chain is in the process of a re-branding effort, and the new look is planned for all of the chain's locations, owner Pam Felix told Patch last year. California Tortilla Burrito Bowl Poll Predicts Presidential Election Results

The results are in, and Obama's Chicken Teriyaki Luau Bowl claimed a sweeping victory over Romney’s Mexican Mitt-Loaf Bowl.

California Tortilla asked their patrons to vote with their tastebuds this election season, and the results are in. The Bethesda-born and Rockville-based California Tortilla debuted its 2012 Presidential Burrito Bowls in August. On Monday, the chain announced that Obama’s Chicken Teriyaki Luau Bowl had claimed a sweeping victory over Romney’s Mexican Mitt-Loaf Bowl, including "swing state" victories in Virginia and Pennsylvania. California Tortilla Chief Operating Officer and head chef Keith Goldman developed the bowls after researching the candidates’ backgrounds and food preferences, according to a release announcing the promotion. Hungry Bethesda residents swarmed the new CalTort to pick up a free burrito Tuesday.

The Bethesda-Chevy Chase Chamber of Commerce was on hand Tuesday to help cut the ribbon on Bethesda's new California Tortilla. The shop opened last week with a new look and a new location, and long lines formed outside Tuesday as CalTort offered free burritos to celebrate.

Free Burritos Tuesday During California Tortilla's Grand Opening

Check out CalTort's new Bethesda location and grab some free grub at the same time.

Bethesda's new California Tortilla opened its doors at 4871 Cordell Avenue last week, but Tuesday marks the restaurant's grand opening celebration. In honor of the chain's new look and new location, CalTort will be offering up free burritos to hungry customers during the lunch and dinner hours. Stop by between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. or 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. to pick up yours. Each customer will receive one free burrito and one free soda -- just remember to stop in at least a half an hour before the end of each shift.
