B-CC Wrestler Wins Weight Class at County Wrestling Tournament

B-CC junior Charlie Banaszak won the 138-pound weight class at the Montgomery County high school wrestling tournament this past weekend.

Wrestler Charlie Banaszak, a junior at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School, won the 138-pound weight class at this past weekend’s Montgomery County high school wrestling tournament, on Feb. 17 and 18, 2012. Banaszak will advance to the 4A/3A West Regional tournament this weekend, Feb. 24 and 25, at Sherwood High School, assistant wrestling coach Josh Singer told Patch. Banaszak was featured on Bethesda Patch last year as an "Athlete To Watch." "[Wrestling is] extremely important to me," Banaszak told Patch last year. "I love to wrestle. It's my favorite thing to do, so any way I can find to get better, any way I can improve, I'm there." Bethesda Athlete to Watch: B-CC Wrestler Charlie Banaszak

Sophomore is 22-4 for Barons this season.

Athlete To Watch is a new Patch feature that will take a look at local athletes who are excelling on the court, field, track, ice or mat. Check back for more athletes to watch as the season progresses. Charlie Banaszak didn't know what to expect out of his sophomore season on the Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School wrestling team. He knew he wanted a trip to the state championships. He knew he worked diligently in the offseason to make that possible. He's just didn't realize how much success he would have by this point of the year. "I was hoping for it but you can't really know what you're gonna do until you actually do it," Banaszak said.
