Cherry Trees to Bloom Early

Are there any cherry trees blooming in your neighborhood yet?

The cherry trees around the Tidal Basin in Washington, DC, are likely to bloom at least a week early this year, The Washington Post reported. The peak bloom will probably occur between March 24 and 31, Robert DeFeo—the National Park Service’s veteran blossom forecaster—announced today. This past winter's warmer weather is not the cause of the early bloom prediction. Rather, it's the possibility of continued warmer-than-usual weather this month that suggests that the blossoms will bloom early. "It really only matters as to what happens from now on,” DeFeo said, The Post reported. "All the warm weather before did not move the cherries along. But now, yes. Now is the time where, if it gets really, really warm, things could accelerate." This …
