The Peapod grocery pickup location will open in the late summer or early fall, along with a Giant gas station, a Giant Food spokesperson told Patch.
The site of the former Sunoco gas station at 8500 Connecticut Avenue in Chevy Chase Lake will become a Peapod grocery pickup location as well as a gas station run by Giant Food by late summer or early fall, Giant Food spokesperson Jamie Miller told Patch. Peapod is the home delivery arm of—and sister company to—Giant, Miller explained. While Peapod charges a service fee for home delivery of Giant groceries, there will be no service fee for the pickup of groceries from the grocery pickup location. The Montgomery County Planning Board's recommendations for the Chevy Chase Lake Sector Plan came under criticism from the Montgomery County Council late last month, when the council took up the sector plan for the first time, Bethesda Now reported. At-large Councilman Marc Elrich said that the plan was focused too much on creating density around the planned Purple Line station in Chevy Chase Lake, rather than on the needs of the existing community, according to Bethesda Now. Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission crews removed the damaged 20-foot section of the pipe and are working to weld a new section in place, according to a WSSC statement issued at noon Thursday. "Once repairs to the pipe are complete later this afternoon it will take several more days for the work to conclude," the statement read. Residents took concerns about the size of the “Town Center” portion of the Chevy Chase Lake Sector Plan to the Montgomery County Council at a public hearing Tuesday night. Nearly 40 people testified before the council about the plan recommended by the county Planning Board. Many took issue with the size of the “Town Center” portion of the plan, particularly the number of square feet the board recommended be built before the Purple Line is constructed. The Purple Line, a proposed 16-mile light rail line from Bethesda to New Carrollton, would have a station in Chevy Chase Lake. Sign up to speak at a public hearing on the Chevy Chase Lake Sector plan on March 5 at 7:30 p.m. at the county council headquarters (100 Maryland Ave., Rockville, in the third-floor hearing room). Only 30 speakers will be allowed to testify at the hearing, according to an email message sent by the Town of Chevy Chase office. Montgomery County planning staff will present design guidelines for the Chevy Chase Lake Sector to the county planning board at the board's weekly meeting on Thursday. Staff planners recommend that the board approve the guidelines and send the guidelines to the county council for approval, according to the meeting's agenda. The County Planning Board approved county planners' draft for the Chevy Chase Lake Sector Plan last week, according to the updated agenda for last Thursday's board meeting. Next, the draft plan for the sector is sent to the County Council and county executive for analysis and approval, The Gazette reported.
