Chevy Chase Lake: Human Scale, Pedestrian-Oriented Plans

Montgomery County's planning staff recommends a human scale and pedestrian orientation for the Chevy Chase Lake sector.

County planning staff recommendations for development in the Chevy Chase Lake sector are ready for public review. County planning staff are recommending that the sector—for which property owner Chevy Chase Land Company is planning a development—retain its human scale, and that there be a focus on traditional architecture and pedestrian-oriented, mixed-use development, Montgomery County Senior Planner Elza Hisel-McCoy said at a presentation in Chevy Chase Village last week. The preservation of Coquelin Run, which runs through the sector, is another important part of the development, as is knitting together the shops on the east and west sides of Connecticut Avenue between Jones Bridge Road and Chevy Chase Lake Drive. North Chevy Chase Council Discusses Purple Line, Chevy Chase Lake

Attendees of last week's Village of North Chevy Chase Council meeting voiced displeasure at the developments planned for Chevy Chase Lake.

By Claire Cohen It seems that North Chevy Chase—a quiet, suburban community—has entered the age of urban development. And, many are not happy with that. The March 20 Village of North Chevy Chase Council meeting had plenty of discussion about the planned Chevy Chase Lake developments—namely, the Purple Line and planned building in the Chevy Chase Lake area. Though the final plans and timeline for the Chevy Chase Lake area development remain uncertain, many residents are concerned about how the new development will impact their quiet community. The planned new buildings include a residential area of condos, apartments and townhouses, small retail establishments and restaurants, a small hotel and office buildings. For many, the developments …

Planning Process Continues at Chevy Chase Lake

The Chevy Chase Land Company is in the preliminary stages of planning a low-to-mid-rise, mixed-use development at Chevy Chase Lake.

While The Chevy Chase Land Company's development plans for its property at Chevy Chase Lake are still so in-progress that buildings can only be represented by adjustable-height, foam-core blocks, the neighborhood-serving characteristics of the development are more defined. The future development at Connecticut Avenue between Jones Bridge Road and Chevy Chase Lake Drive will serve the needs of the neighborhood, and it will be transit-oriented, said Lisa Fadden, the company’s vice president of public affairs, at a meeting of the Town of Chevy Chase’s Long Range Planning Committee on Monday evening, Jan. 16. Fadden has been meeting with Chevy Chase residents and officials since last fall, when the land company scrapped its previous plans for …

Chevy Chase Land Company Hits Reset Button on Development Plans

The original high-rise plans for the Chevy Chase Lake Sector have been scrapped.

Development plans for Chevy Chase Lake have gone back to the drawing board—literally. “The [Chevy Chase] Land Company really hit the reset button after the 4-H presentation,” said Lisa Fadden, vice president of public affairs at the Chevy Chase Land Company. Fadden was referring to a presentation by the company to Chevy Chase residents this past April, at which locals derided the company’s plans for high-rise buildings in the Chevy Chase Lake neighborhood.
