PHOTO: Dropped Wine Bottle Cracks Glass Stair in Chevy Chase Pavilion

Patch blogger Todd Jasper caught a photo of the cracked stair during the weekend.

Chevy Chase resident Todd Jasper—an emergency management consultant whose Patch blogs cover topics like surviving an active shooter and West Nile virus—snapped this photo of a cracked glass stair in the newly renovated Chevy Chase Pavilion this past weekend. The stair cracked when a wine bottle was dropped on it, he reported. The stairs were roped off and closed.  If you look closely at the photo, you can see red wine dripping down the sides of the stairs.

Great comments! I agree, Marty - these stairs do seem a bit dangerous. (Although, the scariest stairs for me in this area are those at the East Wing of the National Gallery - those are on a diagonal, and I nearly trip each time I go there.) And, agreed, it does look a little creepy with the red wine dripping down the sides of the stairs!   more ›

Lunchbox will be the third eatery in the Chevy Chase Pavilion with a menu by celebrity chef Bryan Voltaggio.

The newly-renovated Chevy Chase Pavilion is set to get a third eatery with a menu by celebrity chef Bryan Voltaggio, who will open a second location of Lunchbox—a popular sandwich shop in Frederick, MD—in the Chevy Chase shopping center later this year, Washingtonian reported. "Lunchbox takes the fresh, seasonal ingredients ... and transforms them into gourmet sandwiches, salads, soups and desserts," the restaurant's website states. The Frederick location is a "casual dining venue [that] seats 30 people comfortably for lunch only," and restaurant patrons may dine in or carry out. Menu options include grilled cheese, pastrami and meatloaf sandwiches, a variety of salads and soups, cookies and brownies. Lunchbox will join Voltaggio's other …

Civil Cigar Lounge Booms—and Puffs—With Business

Chevy Chase Pavilion's new cigar lounge is 'surprisingly diverse,' Eater DC reported.

Chevy Chase's new cigar lounge—the Civil Cigar Lounge, inside the recently remodeled Chevy Chase Pavilion—is up and running, and the clientele has turned out to be "surprisingly diverse," Eater DC reported. "On any given night, we're averaging 35 percent, 40 percent women," co-owner Matt Krimm told Eater DC, so it's a far cry from being a stodgy men's club, which might be more stereotypical for a cigar lounge. The 93-seat lounge opened on Jan. 14 and features a full bar serving top-shelf whiskies, scotches and unique cocktails, Chevy Chase Patch reported last month. The lounge has lengthy menus for cigars, wines, spirits and food. Edibles are prepared in the kitchen of neighboring restaurant Range, celebrity chef Bryan Voltaggio's latest …

I like what they are trying to do and will be a patron but the seating is very uncomfortable in the lounge area. they sit way too upright. I would have expected more comfortable chairs and couches. It feels like money was spent on everything else and they tried to do the seating on the cheap. great atmosphere, but also needs to lower the lighting some.   more ›

Civil Cigar Lounge to Open at Chevy Chase Pavilion

The cigar lounge will be catered by the kitchens of Range, celebrity chef Bryan Voltaggio's new restaurant at the newly renovated Chevy Chase Pavilion.

The wait for Chevy Chase's new cigar lounge is nearly over: Civil Cigar Lounge will open in the newly renovated Chevy Chase Pavilion on Monday, Jan. 14. The 93-seat cigar lounge—"featuring plush banquette seating, leather club chairs and intimate nooks and tables"—will be adjacent to celebrity chef Bryan Voltaggio's new Range restaurant, and Range will provide a "small plates menu" "[utilizing] all of Range's nine kitchens including the rotisserie, wood hearth, pasta station and bakery" for the lounge, according to a Civil Cigar Lounge statement. "When we were presented with the opportunity to open the lounge and partner with a restaurant, we wanted to work with chef Bryan Voltaggio," co-owner Matt Krimm said. "The sheer quality and …
