Butler’s Orchard to Host Final Bonfire of the Year

Bonfire begins after 5 p.m. Friday, assistant farm manager Tyler Butler said.

It might not be too late to get a tree, but time’s running out if your tree shopping must include a warm bonfire. Butler’s Orchard in Germantown is hosting its final bonfire of the year on Friday. There will be plenty of marshmallows to go around, according to Tyler Butler, assistant farm manager. Butler said while it wasn't the first time the orchard has had bonfires, it was the first time they've offered up marshmallows. He said he hopes it becomes a new tradition and attracts people to the orchard on a Friday night.  “We get so busy on weekends,” Butler said. “But some people say it’s the only time they can get out to the farm.” On Friday, the orchard will be open until 9:30 p.m. The bonfire begins after 5. More details are available on…

  With Thanksgiving behind us, many families are turning their attention toward buying a Christmas tree. The National Christmas Tree Association wants customers to keep a few safety tips in mind when they purchase their tree. Consumers also need to know how to care for it once it's in their home.

County Offers Christmas Tree Recycling

Mulch from county recycled trees can be picked up in February.

It’s the third day after Christmas and for some the evergreen decorations of holiday cheer are devolving into a drab brown, needle-dropping mess. Take charge of the situation before your happiness starts drooping along with the ornaments. Montgomery County will give residents the opportunity to recycle Christmas trees through February. Trees should be placed on the curb by 7 a.m. on the day of your regular recycling schedule. All decorations should be removed from the tree prior to collection. Trees with root balls are considered “live” and cannot be collected as part of the county’s regular recycling program. Artificial trees will not be collected, but can be donated to area charities. No one Christmas tree seller in Chevy Chase has the market cornered, and Chevy Chase residents have a wide selection of trees from which to choose.

With Christmas only a couple of weeks away, the Christmas tree-buying frenzy is here. For Dan and Bryan Trees, which has been selling trees in Chevy Chase at the corner of Wisconsin Avenue and Davidson Drive since 1967, this weekend will be the biggest weekend of the season in terms of Christmas tree sales, said co-owner Dan Taylor. The Dan and Bryan Trees lot is replenished with fresh-cut trees from the Dan and Bryan Trees' farm in Shepherdstown, WV, almost daily. Hand-grown and cultivated, the trees have won numerous championships, and have been selected for the White House on several occasions. Dan and Bryan Trees are priced individually. The "Potomac" Patch missed the only Potomac tree cutting location right here in our own backyard! Maryland Gardens is on McCrossin Ln- right off of Travilah Rd in our hometown. Tom Mosely has been growing wonderful trees of all kinds at this location for decades. They offer great service- just pick out your favorite tree and they'll cut it down and load it on your car.
