Washington Metropolitan Golf Club's four-person team takes second place at youth tournament in Chevy Chase.
Alex Bourdelais walked passed the gleaming silver trophy, driver in hand. He teed up and surveyed the dogleg right first hole at the Columbia Country Club. Bourdelais stood over the ball, waggled a few times and then with a THWACK, he sent the ball soaring through the air. There was no thunderous applause and less than a dozen people, including the two other golfers in his group, looked on. But that’s the way the organizers wanted it because the Williamson Cup isn’t just about golf. The Williamson Cup was established in 1964 by A. Fred Williamson in memory of his father, who was one of the founders of the famed Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, NY, as a tournament for junior golfers from golf associations in New York, Philadelphia, DC …

The 36-hole, 48th Williamson Cup will take place on Monday, Aug. 8, at the Columbia Country Club.
Looking for more good golf-watching this summer? If so, head over to the Columbia Country Club on Connecticut Avenue this Monday for the 48th Williamson Cup, hosted by the Washington Metropolitan Golf Association. "The annual competition features some of the best junior golfers from around the world," according to a press release. The 36-hole tournament will feature four-person teams of youth under the age of 18. Viewfinder visits the Columbia Country Club and the Somerset Town Pool this week. The club was pretty quiet on Monday evening, when it's mostly closed, but the pool was in full use up to closing time, at 9 p.m., later that day.
