Federal Realty: Retail Would Replace Bethesda Row Dunkin' Donuts

Bethesda Row management company said it offered the coffee chain a space on Arlington Road.

Bethesda Row management company Federal Realty said a retail store may replace the Bethesda Avenue Dunkin' Donuts when the coffee shop's lease expires at the end of May. Federal Realty leasing manager Ralph Ours confirmed to Patch that Federal Realty has decided not to renew Dunkin' Donuts' corporate lease at its Bethesda Avenue location. However, Ours said the management company did offer Dunkin' Donuts the former Medifast space on Arlington Road. “It’s not a black and white issue, it’s more of a balance issue for us,” Ours said. “The most compelling reason behind the decision was, 'Do we continue to have more food on the street or shift it back to retail and apparel?' I live in downtown Bethesda and think it would be great if a "artsy" store like Sansar or Artsy Fartsy -- both formerly of Bethesda Row -- were to come back and occupy the Dunkin Donuts space...that's the type of unique retail I want to see in Bethesda Row.   more ›

Major Real Estate Company Relocates to Chevy Chase

Federal Capital Partners, a privately-held real estate investment company that manages a $1.8-billion portfolio, has moved from Washington, DC, to Friendship Heights, MD, citing the area's "wonderful array of amenities."

Business news in Friendship Heights isn't all bad these days. While some businesses have left in recent months (Pottery Barn, Filene's Basement and Borders, to name a few), others are coming in. The newest business on the block is, in fact, a real estate investment company that manages a portfolio worth about $1.8 billion. Last week, Federal Capital Partners moved from Georgetown, Washington, DC, to Chevy Chase, MD—at 5425 Wisconsin Ave., right in the middle of Friendship Heights. The company signed a seven-and-a-half-year lease for about 5,900 square feet for its 25 employees, "with room for as many as seven new employees to be hired over the next two years," reported Jeff Clabaugh for the Washington Business Journal.
