Lemon Fudge Wins 'Sweet Treats' Bake-Off

Chevy Chase resident Dana Peritz took first place in the contest—held at the Town of Chevy Chase Town Hall—with her homemade lemon fudge.

Chefs revved up their spatulas for the Town of Chevy Chase's “Sweet Treats” bake-off on April 14. The annual event was open to the community to enjoy pastries, tarts, puddings and chocolates. Twelve bakers battled for the first-place spot. Fraiche Cupcakery owner Nina Deva judged the competition, and out of all of the contestants, Dana Peritz took first place with her lemon fudge. Victoria Hunt’s apple tart took second place, and Donna Worsham’s coconut crème bars came in third. The bake-off raised money for Habitat for Humanity’s homeownership project, "Maple Hill," in Gaithersburg. The project is set to help 19 working families in Montgomery County earning 30 to 60 percent of the area’s median household income own their own homes. “We …

Last Chance: Color Maryland Green Contest

Entries in this children's art contest must be postmarked by close of business March 1.

Young artists of Chevy Chase, break out those pens, pencils, paints and cameras because Friday is your last chance to enter the 2013 Color Maryland Green Contest. The contest, sponsored by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR), “is designed to encourage children to take advantage of the abundant recreational opportunities and natural resources that Maryland has to offer,” according to a press release. The contest is open to children grades kindergarten though 12. All artwork should be original and feature the great outdoors of Maryland. Entries can be in any number of artistic mediums—videos, photographs, oil paintings, computer designs, crayon and marker drawings, poetry or pencil and charcoal sketches. One winner from each …

SPEAK OUT: What's Your Favorite County Fair Contest?

There are nine contests—including some that are sure to raise some eyebrows—that take place during the Montgomery County Agricultural Fair. What's your favorite one?

The 64th annual Montgomery County Agricultural Fair opens at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 10, and runs through Saturday, Aug. 18. Along with the traditional rides and vendors, there are nine contests, including some that are sure to raise some eyebrows. Deck Your House to Win $100,000 for Montgomery County Public Schools

Get out the lights and holly. Your decorating could net $100,000 for Montgomery County Public Schools.

Original post, Dec 8: Patch.com is launching a nationwide contest to find the best-dressed home in its Patch communities, and the winner’s school district will receive $100,000, no strings attached. Here’s how the contest works: Beginning on Dec. 8 and continuing through Dec. 26, you can nominate your home by uploading a photo to the contest entry form on the contest website. During that same time, you and your neighbors will also be able to vote for your favorite festive home in Chevy Chase.
