Make Meaning, which offers creative activities for adults and kids, is popular amongst celebrity moms.
A popular family activity chain that's drawn the attention of celebrities including Melissa Joan Hart and Katie Holmes is targeting Bethesda for its newest location. Make Meaning—a shop that offers artistic activities for kids and adults—is set to open in early March 2013 on Bethesda Avenue. The shop offers seven “creative experiences” that include cake decorating, ceramics, candles, glass, jewelry, soap and paper. Afghan dinner and crafts auction to benefit women's literacy, orphanages in Afghanistan.
If you enjoy global crafts and global causes, you’ll want to register for a special benefit coming up Jan. 13. An authentic Afghan dinner and silent auction will celebrate the crafts of Afghanistan and support Afghan literacy and orphanages. The fundraiser, held nearly annually at Cedar Lane Unitarian Universalist Church since 2002, benefits Kabultec, a U.S.-based non-profit sister organization to the Roqia Center for Women’s Rights, Studies and Education in Afghanistan. Both were founded by Nasrine Gross, an Afghan-American who divides her time between the U.S. and Afghanistan. For a great escape this weekend, spend a beautiful autumn day (believe it or not, the skies are supposed to clear) at the Sugarloaf Crafts Festival. More than 250 artisans will be displaying their pottery, sculpture, glass, jewelry, fashion, home décor, furniture and home accessories, items for the garden, and photography. There will be interactive demonstrations with master craftspeople, including wheel thrown pottery, wood turning and metal spinning, as well as children's storytelling performances and live music. Downtown Bethesda held its annual artist market on Saturday, July 9, and it featured various artists from the region. Local painter Evan Goldman showcased his paintings of Bethesda restaurants.
