Bruce Variety to Re-Open on Woodmont in March

Community institution finalizes plans to re-locate to former Creative Parties spot.

Community institution Bruce Variety has finalized a deal to re-locate to the former Creative Parties space on Woodmont, and the store is set to re-open in March, owners tell Patch. News that the 60-year community fixture was closing its doors due to high rent in the Bradley Shopping Center drew heavy media coverage and shock and sadness from loyal patrons. Residents rallied for the store, even organizing an online petition asking the landlord to re-negotiate the $22,000 monthly rent. The store's new location at 8011 Woodmont Ave. was recently vacated by Creative Parties, which moved across the street. I live in L.A. & visited my kids living in Bethesda. Not a trip went by without my wandering through both Bruce's & Creative Parties & finding treasures. The kids have moved to Silver Spring but I'm glad I'm still able to look forward to these explorations. May both stores go from strength to strength.   more ›

Creative Parties To Vacate Woodmont Location

The store will open a new location on St. Elmo Avenue as early as next week.

The iconic blue and green building on Woodmont Avenue, home of Creative Parties Ltd., could be the latest casualty of Bethesda’s downtown redevelopment, according to local reports. The event planning and invitation store will move to the first floor of the Landow Building on St. Elmo Avenue as early as next week, reports Bethesda Now and local blogger Robert Dyer. Creative Parties Ltd. owner Tracy Bloom Schwartz told Bethesda Now the move is to avoid any potential redevelopment on the current site, where she’s been in business for 16 years. “Instead of signing another five-year lease, Bloom Schwartz decided to move to a more steady location,” the report states.
