President Barack Obama Accepts Democratic Nomination

Maryland's delegation was delighted with the speech.

By Matt Fleming, Capital News Service CHARLOTTE, NC—It's official—Barack Obama is this year's Democratic presidential candidate. Following last night's state roll call, there was nothing left for the president to do but take the stage and accept the party's nomination, while touting the past term's accomplishments and promising future prosperity. "America, I never said this journey would be easy, and I won't promise that now," said Obama. "Yes, our path is harder, but it leads to a better place. DNC Schedule: Former President Clinton to Speak at 10 p.m.

Maryland's U.S Senator Barbara Mikulski, Rep. Steny Hoyer and Rep. Chris Van Hollen will also speak Wednesday night. View the schedule of notable speakers on opening night at the Democratic National Convention.

Day 1 of the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, NC, is in the book and Day 2 has many notable speakers, headlined by former  President Bill Clinton. Clinton is scheduled to speak during the 10-11 p.m. timeslot. Also speaking Wednesday from the Maryland is Sen. Barbara Mikulski (7-8 p.m. timeslot), Rep. Steny Hoyer (8-9 p.m. timeslot) and Rep. Chris Van Hollen (closing the 9-10 p.m. timeslot). DNC Schedule: MD Gov. O'Malley to Speak at 10 p.m.

The Democratic National Convention kicks off at 5 p.m. in Charlotte, NC and Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley is among the notable speakers Tuesday evening. O'Malley is scheduled to lead off the 10 p.m. timeslot. Also speaking Tuesday from the Washington, DC region is former Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine. Kaine, who will speak late in the 6-7 p.m. hour, is currently running for Senate.
