Old Angler's Inn Gets New, Favorable Review

The Washington Post's Tom Sietsema revisited the Potomac restaurant and gave it a favorable review.

If you'd crossed off the Old Angler's Inn on your list of favorite local restaurants, you might want to rethink the place. Earlier this week, Tom Sietsema—dining critic for The Washington Post—published a favorable review of the restaurant, which has been revamped in recent years. Mark Reges, whose family has owned the property since 1957, said that it took his mother's passing in 2005 to make some changes. "Five years ago, he, wife Sara and brother Greg reopened the back garden. Next, they tackled the interior, starting with the ground floor. Out went those sad sofas, and in went a marble-topped bar purchased from the late Watergate Hotel," Sietsema reported. Then, in 2011, they got a new chef—31-year-old Nick Palermo, who has worked at…

But if you look at the menu, it is still quite heavy food. Not something you want to eat in the spring. Perhaps they will soon change the menu to reflect the season? And the prices are ridiculous. Pasta with white clam sauce - $24. Really? Pan-seared eggplant - $21. The smaller of the two upstairs dining rooms still looks like a claustrophobic attic and I don't see any mention of that metal …   more ›

The 30-seat, fast casual restaurant at 7945 MacArthur Boulevard will serve up salads, burritos, rice bowls, and, of course, fish tacos. Food, Wine and Co. executive chef Michael Harr told The Post the business partners considered opening a burger restaurant in the space, but went with the Fish Taco concept to cater to the area's healthy eaters. Post editors taste tested dishes at restaurants throughout the DC region to develop the list, sifting through hundreds of reader nominations. Along with Food, Wine & Co's famous tots, the fried chicken with spiced salt and basil at Rockville's Jumbo Jumbo Cafe and the Mongolian beef with cumin at Joe's Noodle House, also in Rockvile, both made the list.
