Funds have been identified by the Washington, D.C., city council to fund the E6 Metrobus route in the 2012 fiscal year. The bus is a popular public transportation connection between Chevy Chase and Friendship Heights. “The council was able to identify the funds needed to fully fund WMATA’s fiscal year 2012 budget, including funds to maintain the E6 bus line,” reported councilmember Tommy Wells, chairperson of the council’s Committee on Public Works and Transportation and WMATA boardmember for D.C. “I’ve heard from many people that depend on this route, and I’d like to continue working with residents and businesses in the area to improve service and dependability so that even more people rediscover the bus and use this valuable service," …

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority has finally scheduled a Montgomery County public hearing for its budget proposals—which include cutting the popular E6 bus route connecting Chevy Chase and Friendship Heights—but it has not selected a hearing location that will be convenient for the hundreds of Chevy Chase residents angered by the move to cut the E6. The hearing, one of six such sessions scheduled in Maryland, Virginia and the district, will be held on Wednesday, May 18, at the First Baptist Church of Wheaton Fellowship Hall, at 10914 Georgia Avenue in Wheaton. On Thursday, June 24, 2011 the WMATA board voted on their 2012 budget. I am happy to report the E6 Chevy Chase bus, an important community asset, was not among the routes eliminated. Keep riding the E6 to ensure its future. Its a wonderful bus.   more ›
