Treacherous Wintry Mix for Metro Area

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory.

  The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for Montgomery and Prince George's counties until 1 p.m. today. The alert calls for a mix of freezing rain, sleet and rain, with possible accumulations of less than one inch of sleet and under a tenth of an inch of ice. Temperatures are expected to stay below freezing, which can cause treacherous road conditions. In a statement released by the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) administrator Melinda B. peters urges motorists to "keep their speeds down as lighter traffic can result in increased travel speeds," and "to exercise extreme caution today." Sleet and Snow and Rain…Oh My!

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory.

Brace yourself for some more winter weather, Chevy Chase. The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for the area in effect from 10 p.m. Monday evening to noon Tuesday, Jan. 18. Snow, sleet and freezing rain are forecasted, with the freezing rain having the most significant impact. One inch or less of snow and sleet accumulation and one to two-tenths of an inch of ice accumulation is predicted. NWS forecasts a mix of snow and sleet will develop between 10 p.m. Monday to midnight with the precipitation changing to freezing rain between midnight and 3 a.m. and will continue into early Tuesday morning.
