Drilling begins this week at 8330 Wisconsin Ave., Bethesda, where a 359-unit apartment building and Harris Teeter grocery store are building built.
Construction work to build a 359-unit apartment building and Harris Teeter grocery store at the empty lot at 8300 Wisconsin Ave., Bethesda, is entering the drilling phase this week. Drilling will last about five to six weeks. Then, blasting will begin, probably in early July, according to an email newsletter from the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Regional Services Center. "Crews must blast through rock to build an underground parking garage," according to the newsletter. "Blasting and excavation is scheduled to begin in early July. According to StonebridgeCarras, the builder, this phase will take about five months," the newsletter added. February was a newsy month in the Bethesda food scene. Patch broke the news this month that Harris Teeter has signed a lease to be the grocery tenant at a new mixed-use development at 8300 Wisconsin Ave. The new grocery store is expected to open in 2015. Also this month, we reported that Dunkin' Donuts is closing its Bethesda Avenue location after Bethesda Row management company Federal Realty did not renew their lease, which expires in May. The coffee shop has two new downtown Bethesda locations in the works. Grocery chain Harris Teeter has finalized a lease for a space in a new mixed-use development project at 8300 Wisconsin Ave., according to a company spokeswoman. Developers StonebridgeCarras are planning a nine-story, mixed-use residential and commercial building at the 1.6-acre site at the corner of Wisconsin Avenue and Battery Lane, formerly the Trillium property. Developers have said the project will include a partially below-grade grocery store with an entrance planned for a plaza at the corner of Battery and Wisconsin avenues, but Stonebridge principal Jane Mahaffie would not confirm that the grocery tenant is Harris Teeter.
