HOC Requests Density Increase in Chevy Chase Lake

The commission seeks to nearly double the number of apartment units at its Chevy Chase Lake property.

Buildings, trails and roads circle the 68 garden-style units of the Chevy Chase Lake Apartments. A proposed Purple Line station—and a steady increase in the area's population—is projected to increase the area's housing demand. The only way for the complex—which offers one-quarter of its units as affordable housing—to significantly increase its density is to build up, according to the executive director of the Housing Opportunities Commission. The commission has requested that the property of the Chevy Chase Lake Apartments be re-zoned as part of the Chevy Chase Lake Sector Plan.
