A one-day fundraiser at Frosting raised more than $500 to help a little girl fight leukemia.
A Friday fundraiser at Friendship Heights' popular cupcake shop, Frosting Bakeshop and Coffee Bar, raised $537.08 to help a little girl fight leukemia, according to Frosting's Facebook page. And that included a $50 phone-in donation from a Frosting fan who was on vacation on the day of the fundraiser, Frosting reported on Facebook. Special "Ruby Red Velvet" cupcakes were designed and handcrafted—right down to the special ladybug toppers—by Frosting owners Todd Bracken and Michelle Snow Bracken, and sold for $3 each on Friday, Aug. 10. This Friday, enjoy a unique treat and help a child fight leukemia.
On Friday, eat cake and feel good about it (for a change). Friendship Heights' popular cupcakery, Frosting Bakeshop and Coffee Bar (1 Wisconsin Circle, Chevy Chase), is pulling out all the stops to create one-of-a-kind Ruby Red Velvet cupcakes—with special, handmade ladybug toppers—to sell to help support young Ruby Kahoun's fight against acute lymphoblastic leukemia. The cupcakes will only be available on Friday, Aug. 10, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Ruby is a two-and-a-half year-old "blondie with bright big eyes and a light-up-the-room personality that is just contagious. Ruby has the most loving family and support system around her that have been chanting, 'Just Win, Ruby! Fight Like A Girl!' for the past nine months" since her diagnosis. "…

This month, treat yourself—and others—through sweet treats at two Friendship Heights businesses.
Dessert isn't always about treating yourself. This month, two Friendship Heights businesses—Rosa Mexicano and Frosting Bakeshop and Coffee Bar—offer sweet treats for a good cause. *** Throughout August, Rosa Mexicano (5225 Wisconsin Ave. NW, Washington, DC) offers a special dessert to raise money for Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation. The "Gelatina de Limonada" (i.e., lemonade Jell-O) combines horchata lemonade "Jell-O" and Meyer lemon-basil marmalade with raspberry-rose granita for "a sweet and refreshing flan-like treat" that "tastes like a creamy raspberry lemonade,” according to the restaurant. Pastry Chef Jai Kendall emailed Patch about the inspiration behind the dessert: I love lemons. There’s nothing better on a hot summer's day than…
