A woman went on the tracks at the Bethesda Metro station, the Washington Examiner reported.
A train operator was able to stop in time before hitting a woman on the tracks at the Bethesda Metro station on Friday, according to the Washington Examiner. The incident happened around 5:30 p.m. during the Friday afternoon rush hour, The Examiner reported. The woman refused to move after the train stopped, at one point lying down on the tracks, according to the report. It took officials about 15 minutes to remove the woman from the tracks. Free shuttle buses will replace trains between the Silver Spring and NoMa-Gallaudet U stations this weekend.
Attention, Red Line riders: Free shuttle buses will replace Red Line trains between the Silver Spring and NoMa-Gallaudet U stations this weekend, causing delays along the line. From 10 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 17, through closing on Sunday, Aug. 19, work crews will focus on tie and insulator renewal, structural work, platform reconstruction and fiber optic cable installation along the closed segment of the Red Line, according to Metro's website. Delays on the Red Line this weekend between the Friendship Heights and Van Ness Metro stations will mean longer trips to downtown DC.

Expect delays on the Red Line on Saturday, but all track work will be suspended and the Metro system will open two hours early on Sunday for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial events.
This weekend beginning at 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15, through the system closing on Saturday, Oct. 15, all Red Line trains will share one track between Shady Grove and Twinbrook for platform repairs. All Red Line customers should allow about 20 minutes of additional travel time, Metro reports. According to WMATA, additional track work is planned for the Blue, Yellow and Orange lines from 10 p.m. Friday through closing on Saturday. Red Line trains will also share one track between the Takoma and Forest Glen Metrorail stations to allow for cable installation and station upgrades. Red Line trains will depart endpoint terminals every 24 minutes. On Saturday and Sunday between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m., additional Red Line trains will operate between the Grosvenor and Fort Totten stations, resulting in service about every 12 minutes between these stations. All Red Line customers should allow about 20 minutes of additional travel time, Metro reports.

Delays on the Red Line yesterday afternoon and evening were caused by a "weather-related 'heat kink' " in the Red Line's outbound rails between the Takoma Park and Silver Spring stations. Extreme heat and direct sunlight will occasionally cause rail tracks to expand, thereby warping them. "As it expands, the rail loses its proper alignment, making it necessary to take the track out of service until repairs are made," Metro reported on its website.
