As reported by Germantown Patch on Tuesday, a Maryland lawmaker is introducing legislation seeking to raise the state's minimum wage from its current rate of $7.25 per hour to $10 per hour by 2015. When the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, often called Obamacare, was passed by U.S. Congress, a number of business leaders, including Papa John's CEO John Schnatter, expressed concerns over the negative financial effect the law would have on businesses. Legislation would raise Maryland’s minimum wage from $7.25 to $10 by 2015.
A campaign has been launched to gradually raise Maryland’s minimum wage from $7.25 to $10 by 2015. Maryland Sen. Rob Garagiola, a Democrat from a Germantown, and Prince George’s County lawmaker Del. Aisha N. Braveboy are co-sponsoring legislation and held a rally Tuesday in Annapolis to garner support. The legislation will be introduced in the next two weeks, Garagiola said in a statement released to media. “Maryland workers are in desperate need of a raise,” Garagiola said in the emailed statement. “Our people are working harder but aren’t earning more, and it’s time to give a much needed boost to our economy. almost 100 years of minimum wage laws in the USA, and liberals are still using it to make everyone "equal." So a burger flipper should make as much as a highly trained doctor or professional? Of course not. And they never will. Minimum wage means companies will find more creative ways to not hire unskilled workers.   more ›
