Montgomery Aquatic Center Slashes Weekend Swimming Hours
Indoor pool will only be open on Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m.
If you were planning to go to the Montgomery Aquatic Center, the popular indoor swimming facility in North Bethesda, to swim early Sunday morning or late Sunday afternoon this summer, forget about it. In a budget-cutting move that received only scant attention, the MAC will be open only from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sundays this summer, a sharp cutback from the 8 a.m.-to-5 p.m. hours that prevailed until June 11 this year, and which have been in effect for many years, even in the summer when the outdoor pools are open throughout the county. Many residents of Chevy Chase, Bethesda, Rockville, Kensington, Wheaton, Potomac, North Potomac and Darnestown swim or exercise at the MAC on a regular basis. That's an interesting point, Ginger. But I think you also may want to consider that the MAC is more than just swimming pools. There are other forms of exercise facilities there as well as specialized water activities such as diving, deep-water running, water aerobics and others. Many of these are not usually available at the outdoor pools.   more ›
