SPEAK OUT: Alcohol at the Bethesda Row Cinema?

Would you grab a drink with your movie?

The Bethesda Row Cinema soon may begin serving alcohol at its cafe. The news was first reported by Bethesda blogger Robert Dyer. The cinema hopes to start serving alcohol by the spring, an employee confirms, and is working through the application process for a liquor license. It's not clear whether they'll serve liquor, or only beer and wine. A hearing before the county's liquor board is set for Nov. 15, Dyer reports. The cinema's parent company, Landmark, features a full bar at its popular E Street location in Washington, DC. The cafe at E Street offers about 20 bottled beers and about 23 different wines served by the glass or bottle. That's great news. I haven't been able to get a drink and watch a film since the old Bethesda Cinema and Draft went dark. I hope they sell the drinks at the concession stand and don't have servers in the theater. They distract from being able to concentrate on the movie.   more ›

A Glimpse Inside ArcLight Cinemas

The California-based movie theater chain is coming to the Montgomery Mall in 2014.

This week, Patch reported that ArcLight Cinemas will be the new movie theater tenant at the Westfield Montgomery Mall when the re-developed shopping center opens in 2014. Since then, we were able to snag a few images of the upscale theater complex from one of the chain's California locations. Take a look and let us know what you think!

15-Screen Theater, Upscale Restaurants Coming to Montgomery Mall

More screens and better food options are coming next year to the Westfield Montgomery Shopping Mall.

The Movies at Montgomery Mall will be rocketing into the 21st century with a modern 15-screen, 2,300-seat complex, including stadium-like seating and digital equipment, to replace the current three-theater spot, according to plans unveiled by Westfield Development Corp. officials. The upgrades, on-hold for nearly five years, will also feature a major overhaul and expansion of the Westfield Montgomery Shopping Mall’s food court, with a considerably larger seating area (the existing court is almost always packed) and more eateries of the upscale variety. Glad to see the economy has improved enough for Montgomery Mall to begin these improvements and expansion. A movie theater with convenient parking will be a welcome addition to the Bethesda/Rockville area.   more ›
