In 2012, Councilman Roger Berliner (D-Dist. 1) took the reins from Councilwoman Valerie Ervin (D-Dist 5). After a year focused on economic development, budget wrangling and squabbles with Pepco and public utilities, Berliner stepped down as council president in December, and Nancy Navarro will take over council leadership for 2013. Use New Year's leftover Champagne to make some sweet treats for the kitchen.
What to do with that wonderful bubbly leftover from your celebrations? You hate to throw it out, but you just can't face another Champagne cocktail. Even if your Champagne has lost some of its fizz, you can use it in many ways, for recipes both sweet and savory. You won't taste the alcohol, but the Champagne flavor will really enhance the other flavors. Here are some ideas for you: 1. If you happen to have one of those little ice cream makers, pull that baby out and put it in your freezer. Then you can make sorbet with your leftover sweet Champagne and serve with fresh berries. Shady Grove Adventist Hospital delivered the baby boy shortly before 1am.
Staff at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in Rockville welcomed the first baby born at the hospital in 2012 into the world this morning at 12:49am. The baby boy weighed 7lbs, 14oz, and both he and his mother are doing well, the hospital said in a news release. The baby and his family are from Silver Spring. “At Shady Grove Adventist Hospital, our expert physicians and staff recognize that each birth is an intimate and special experience for a family,” said Terry Francis, Director of Perinatal Services. “We are pleased to welcome this first baby of 2012 and look forward to celebrating many more births at our hospital this year.” The hospital delivers more than 5,000 babies each year.
