A hearing to decide whether 15-year-old Robert Gladden would be charged as an adult or juvenile will continue Thursday morning.
UPDATE (Jan. 31, 12 a.m.)—A Wednesday court hearing to determine the state of charges against 15-year-old Robert W. Gladden Jr. revealed dark details about his childhood years and academic history. Gladden is accused of opening fire inside Perry Hall High School's cafeteria on the first day of school and seriously injuring another student. He was charged as an adult with nine counts of first-degree attempted murder, among other charges, in the Aug. 27 incident. Testimony Wednesday revealed that as a young boy, Gladden was exposed to suicide and death, and exhibited threatening behavior and suicidal thoughts. Students say it was Jesse Wasmer, a guidance counselor at Perry Hall High School, who intervened during a shooting in the school's cafeteria.
Students and social media are reporting that Jesse Wasmer, a Perry Hall High School guidance counselor, intervened after a 15-year-old student reportedly shot another student in the school's cafeteria Monday morning. "I turned around and the kid's got a gun, and Mr. Wasmer, one of the counselors, pushes him up against a vending machine and then he shot one more off," Ryan Brady, a student who witnessed the shooting, told Patch. Wasmer declined to comment when contacted by Patch. A Facebook page has been created to thank Wasmer. At 4:30 p.m. Monday it had nearly 950 fans. BALTIMORE, MD -- UPDATED (4:19 p.m.)—A 15-year-old student shot a 17-year-old classmate at Perry Hall High School on Monday, the first day of the Baltimore County school year, officials said. A guidance counselor at the school "heroically" stopped the attack by grabbing the shooter, police said. Baltimore County police said in a news release that the student who had been shot was transported by helicopter to a local hospital.
