Eater DC reports that the restaurant's pizza chef is Edan MacQuaid, who has made pizzas at Local 16, Graffiato, Pizzeria Orso, Red Rocks, Ardeo + Bardeo, 2Amys and Pizzeria Paradiso.
Range isn't all about meat. It's got good pizza covered, too. Eater DC reported that the restaurant's pizza chef is Edan MacQuaid, "who most recently made pies at Local 16 [1602 U St. NW, Washington, DC] and has worked in just about every popular pizza joint in town," Eater DC added. "An Eater writer spotted the cook at [Range] ... over the weekend and confirmed the move," Eater DC added. At Range, the pizza dough (like the other breads served at the restaurant) is made in-house, chefs told Patch. MacQuaid was let go from Local 16 on Nov. 17, he told The Washington Post. He wanted to open a pizzeria on 14th St. NW, DC, but didn't have the funds, The Post reported. Before Local 16, MacQuaid made pizza at Graffiato, Pizzeria Orso, Red Rocks…

Popular pizzeria is launching a mobile pizza company, Bethesda Magazine reports.
The owner of the popular Haven Pizzeria in Bethesda is taking his pizza on the road, Bethesda Magazine’s Table Talk blog reports. Tiger Mullen is gearing up to launch a mobile pizza catering business dubbed the Tomato Flyer Pizza Co., according to the report. Mullen is refurbishing three, red, 1948 International Harvester KB-7 trucks to act as pizza kitchens on wheels. The trucks will park at private parties and events, and will also serve up salads, gelato, coffee and espresso, according to Bethesda Magazine. The business is set to launch in February or March. Other local pizza businesses have taken to the streets as well—Mia’s Pizza's Melissa Ballinger recently bought a pizza truck formerly operated by Potomac’s Dennis Friedman and …

Patch rounds up five favorite pizza parlors in the area—which ones have you tried? Add a photo of your favorite pizza pie to the photo gallery. Buon appetito!
One of the great things about living in an urban area like Montgomery County is that there is a wide variety of dining options. There's not just one "house of pizza" in town—depending on whether you like your pizza deep-dish, thin-crust, New Haven-style or super-sized, Montgomery County has a pizza pie for you. In Bethesda, Mia's Pizza (at 4926 Cordell Ave.) serves rustic, wood fire-baked pies, as well as classic pizzas like the Margherita. Unique toppings for building speciality pizzas include Gruyere and Gorgonzola cheeses, meatballs and pancetta. The restaurant has "[o]utstanding food and great staff," wrote Patch user Kennis Termini on Mia's directory listing for Bethesda Patch. Termini gave the restaurant Patch's highest rating of …

Bethesda Magazine's Table Talk blog reports on the newest addition to Bethesda's crowded pizza market.
Good news on the pizza front. The long-awaited Haven Pizzeria, a New Haven-style pizza restaurant planned for 7137 Wisconsin Avenue, will open Feb. 15, Bethesda Magazine's Table Talk blog reports. Construction and approval delays pushed back the restaurant's opening, originally planned for last summer, according to Table Talk. Owners Tiger Mullen and Mark Bergami told Patch last year they plan to serve up traditional pizzas with thin, “crackery” crusts and “airy layers of cooked bread inside," making the dough from scratch each day. "I see during the day this being a real in-and-out, fast type of place for the business person and at night it being a place to relax,” Bergami, a New Haven native, told Patch last year. The space now features …

Naked Pizza offers Bethesda healthy gourmet pizza for carry out and delivery.
The current count of dedicated pizza delivery services in downtown Bethesda is eleven. They all have worthy attributes, but none vary drastically enough to stop you after the first bite to say, “Wow!” That is until you try Naked Pizza. Despite its unfortunate name, Naked Pizza is the newest and best pizza delivery service in Bethesda. What makes Naked Pizza different from all other round pies covered in cheese? Let’s start with the crust. Naked Pizza has ten grains in the dough, including Agave fiber, quinoa, amaranth, teff, spelt, tapioca and two kinds of wheat. One bite renders the complexity of this combination. If you’re a fan of whole grain, you’ll be thrilled. If you’re not, you won’t be displeased. There’s a sweet, subtle crunch and…

Pizza joint announces its opening on Facebook page.
Update, 3 p.m.: In more Bethesda pizza news, WTOP is reporting that Haven pizzeria will open by the end of October. You can read more about Haven in our new restaurant roundup. Is Bethesda turning into pizza central? Original Post, 10 a.m.: Naked Pizza is set to open at 4914 Del Ray Avenue in Bethesda on Friday, according to the restaurant's Facebook Page. Bethesda Magazine and excited Bethesda diners quickly took to Twitter to spread the news. The New Orleans-based chain serves up a healthier pizza with no added sugar, high-fructose corn syrup, hydrogenated oils and “no freaky chemicals.” In March, co-founder Robbie Vitrano told Bethesda Magazine’s Table Talk blog his pizza was like a healthier version of Dominos or Papa John’s. “The …

Patch ventured out to explore the prodigious power of pie.
Pizza is a very personal thing. Each of us likes our pizza a certain way. In my family alone there are vast preferences, posing a challenge when it’s time to order in. My younger daughter insists on delivery-style plain cheese pizza with soft, hand tossed crust, and most “gourmet” pizzas are unacceptable. There’s my older daughter who prefers thin crust, loves a variety of toppings, and even tolerates a veggie or two. My husband wants his covered with everything — except meat — yes, on anchovies. Fortunately he caves on this demand most of the time. For me — sauce. I want copious amounts of sauce. I like all styles of crust and most toppings, but it has to have good sauce; that’s a deal-breaker. So keep this in mind as you read my reviews…

I voted P.o.R., but neither is my first choice. Bel Piatto is better than any of the above and Ledo's is a local, unique classic.   more ›
