Week Ahead in Weather: We'll Wait for the Sun

We're not facing what the Midwest has—major snow.

While the Midwest battles a major winter storm, we’re facing little excitement this week, weather-wise, according to the National Weather Service, but the clouds should lift in a few days. Today’s fog will give way to cloudy skies and possible rain. Temperatures should hit the mid-60s during the day, and drop to about 40 degrees tonight.  Tomorrow will be partly sunny, with temperatures reaching the high 40s during the day, dropping to about freezing at night. Wednesday looks the same, with partly sunny skies with temperatures in the high 40s during the day and dropping to the low 30s at night. Thursday’s skies will be sunny and temperatures will rise to the mid-40s, dropping to about 30 at night.  Friday looks a little warmer, with sunny …

Thanksgiving was perfect but it won't last.

Here comes that pre-winter chill. According to the National Weather Service, temperatures will reach just the high 40s today with clear, sunny skies. Temperatures will drop to the mid-30s today and rain is likely late tonight and early Tuesday morning. Rain—and maybe some snow—is expected to continue through Tuesday morning, when temperatures reach the low 40s. Expect cloudy skies Tuesday night and below-freezing temperatures, dropping to the high 20s. The sun should shine Wednesday, and temperatures will reach the mid-40s. Wednesday night skies will stay clear, and temperatures again go sub-freezing, dropping to the high 20s. Thursday will bring more sun and temperatures in the low 40s, dropping to the high 20s at night. Friday should …

Cool Front, Possible Thunderstorms Headed Our Way

Harsh storms passed through Baltimore and Harford counties last night.

The National Weather Service is reporting that showers and thunderstorms could develop Wednesday along a front expected to bring cooler weather to the region. The chance of rain and thunderstorms in Montgomery and Prince George's counties is for after 2 p.m. -- bad news for the Montgomery County Fair, which is in high gear. Severe storms passed through Harford and Baltimore counties Tuesday night, bringing lightning, hail, high winds and tornado warnings. Baltimore County police confirmed at least one storm-related fire, caused by a lightning strike, in the Parkville area. There were no injuries. But the forecast is looking up in this part of Maryland, especially for the weekend, according to the NWS:

Perhaps there is a more cost effective way to bury the lines. Every time the roads get torn up for various reasons, they could opportunistically bury the power lines at the same time. If I recall correctly, their current tree trimming initiative is costing around $600 million, and trees have a tendency to grow pretty quickly in these parts, so they'll probably have to do it again soon enough. …   more ›
