After the Newtown, CT school shooting, Maryland legislators are looking at a number of ways to make schools safer.
According to Annapolis Patch, delegates from Anne Arundel County are introducing legislation on Tuesday, Jan. 22 in hopes of increasing security and mental health services at public schools across the state. The proposed bill would also pay for an armed resource officer at each school. "If you really understand public schools in Maryland, you know this: They are becoming increasingly more difficult for classroom teachers because discipline is lacking at home and teachers are spending an increasing amount of time maintaining discipline in the classroom," said Del. Final candidate selected by May 2011.
Looking for a new job? Montgomery County Public Schools has a big one open, but they haven't simply put it up on Craiglist. Shortly after announcing that school system would be working with Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates to recruit a new superintendent, the Board of Education also set up separate section of the main county schools' website for the search. HYA was the search firm that helped hire current superintendent Jerry Weast. The site is designed for both community members and potential candidates, although the job listing is not available. Instead, candidates are given information about the Montgomery County school system as well as the Board of Education and told the successful candidate will "become the CEO of one of the nation…
