Three White Flint North Gets LEED Gold
The White Flint building into which the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission is moving received high marks from the U.S. Green Building Council.
One of White Flint's gleaming new buildings recently received LEED Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council for the building's environmentally-friendly design and features. It's the 14-story, Three White Flint North building, located in real estate company LCOR's North Bethesda Center, by the White Flint Metrorail station. It will be used as offices for the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. The building's features include a reflective roofing surface and vegetated roof areas, systems to reduce water usage by 41 percent and efficient mechanical systems including three frictionless chillers, a water purification system, a fully integrated building automation system and four emergency generators. Thanks for the article. It would be helpful to know what "regionally-sourced" means in the discussion of where building materials originated. I find that in some stores it means DC-VA-MD, and in others it means the East coast, writ large. Thanks. more ›

Homebuilders Are Abandoning 'Master Bedroom.' Do You Know Why?
Not the actual room, but the term, Washington Business Journal reported.
The term used to describe the largest bedroom in a house may be slowing falling out of popularity in the Washington region. "Master bedroom," Washington Business Journal reports, conjures up images of slavery. Not to mention that "master" implies the occupant is male. "Owner's suite" or "owner's bedroom" are the preferred terms for many homebuilders in Washington, the newspaper reports. “The terminology has more of an upscale tone to it, particularly in some of the really large homes that truly have a large bedroom, sitting area, enormous walk-in closets, and lavish bathrooms,” Brian Block, managing broker for McLean’s RE/Max Allegiance, told WBJ. “Owner Suite conveys a sense of being distinguished, having ‘made it’ or ‘arrived’ rather …

Evers & Co. Real Estate Opens 4th Location
The real estate office's grand opening featured an exhibit of work by local artists.
For those with doubts about the health of the area's real estate market, take note: Evers & Co. Real Estate recently opened its fourth location, at 7032 Wisconsin Ave. The office's grand opening, on April 4, highlighted local artists with an exhibit featuring work from the Yellow Barn Studio in Glen Echo. Walt Bartman and Jordan Bruns were among the featured artists, according to Kaitlin Walukonis of Evers & Co.
