Planning Board Appoints Rose Krasnow as Interim Director

The Montgomery County Planning Board appointed Rose Krasnow to serve as interim director of the planning department, while the search continues for a permanent replacement for Rollin Stanley.

  The Montgomery County Planning Board appointed Rose Krasnow to serve as the interim director of the county's planning department, according to a statement issued by the planning department Friday. Krasnow will begin directing the 130-member agency on Monday, following the departure of Director Rollin Stanley, who resigned last month. The board has begun a nationwide search for a permanent director, and intends to hire one within six to nine months, said Montgomery County Planning Board Chair Françoise Carrier. Krasnow has worked for the planning department since 2004. For the last year and a half, she directed the department’s Area 1 team, which crafts master plans and reviews development applications for the inner-ring communities …

Stanley to Lead Calgary Planning Department

Montgomery County Planning Director Rollin Stanley will leave his post next month for a position in Calgary, Alberta.

When Montgomery County Planning Director Rollin Stanley leaves his position next month, he'll head north to Calgary, Alberta, where he will head the city's planning, development and assessment department. Calgary—which, at one million residents, is Canada's third-largest city—recruited Stanley last winter after interviewing him several years ago for another position and after an international search, according to a Montgomery County Planning Department news release. "Stanley did not seek out the position, he said, but considered the offer too good to refuse because it provides the challenge of managing Calgary’s tremendous growth as well as professional opportunities for his wife, also a planner," read the statement. Exactly - whoever looked up the org chart for the Planning Dept should have k\looked at the entire organizational structure that Mr. Stanley will oversee. And as for Calgary's rapid growth - it's mostly oil and gas and the technology that surrounds it - sold on world markets at world prices. Bethesda Magazine is reporting that Montgomery County Planning Director Rollin Stanley has apologized for controversial statements he made regarding a group of his detractors in a recent Bethesda Magazine article. Patch reported on the controversy March 8. In the article by Eugene L. Meyer, titled the “The Future Is Looking Up”  and published in Bethesda Magazine's March-April issue, Stanley called the group "rich, white women" who spread fear about his initiatives. The statements prompted backlash from the community and a call for his resignation. Bethesda Magazine reports that Rollin Stanley is apologizing for calling a group of his detractors 'rich, white women.'

Bethesda Magazine is reporting that county planning director Rollin Stanley has apologized after coming under fire for comments he made in a recent Bethesda Magazine story. In the article by Eugene L. Meyer, entitled the “The Future Is Looking Up”  and published in the magazine’s March-April issue, Stanley called a group of his detractors "rich, white women" who spread fear about his initiatives. The group of activists asked him to publicly apologize, calling the characterization "a blatantly racial and sexist slur,” Patch reported Thursday. Stanley’s comments drew a firestorm of controversy, including on Patch, and his comments were condemned by county Planning Board Chair Francoise Carrier. UPDATE: Planning Chief's 'Sexist' Remarks Under Fire

Rollin Stanley called detractors "rich, white women."

Update, 3:25 p.m.: Planning Board Chairwoman Françoise Carrier addressed Director Rollin Stanley's remarks before a meeting Thursday, saying they in no way reflect the opinions of the board. Carrier said in a prepared statement that the Planning Board encourages public participation in its process, and Stanley's comments fall out of line with the department's values. "While we are grateful to Mr. Stanley for the work he has done on behalf of the agency and for this county to date, we did not sanction his interview with (Bethesda Magazine), nor do we condone the views he expressed," she said.
