Washington, DC, native and Chevy Chase resident Ferrall Dietrich recently opened a women’s active wear store just in time for spring.
Core72 opened its doors to customers during its first grand opening at 5502 Connecticut Ave. last month. The chic active wear store is a boutique that “brings to Washington a range of distinctive active wear and lifestyle fashions sourced from a hand-picked group of manufacturers,” according to Core72’s press release. “We want to work out in clothes that are designed for us and that will keep up with us—and that are not simply men's extra smalls in pink,” owner Ferrall Dietrich said. The store’s bright décor and flowery scent provide an inviting ambiance for the spring season's fashions, which include respected brands in the outdoors industry like Anjali, Omgirl and Split59. “Core72 is the result of my longtime dream to merge the energy …
Ferrall Dietrich talks about her new active wear store Core72, and what's trending for women's sportswear this spring.
Ferrall Dietrich is a city woman with a passion for the outdoors. The Chevy Chase resident found her passion for the outdoors after spending many years in Boulder, CO. Once she moved back to her hometown, she realized what athletic stores were missing and found the solution. Dietrich wanted to create a communal store that offers top of the line athletic brands to a local audience. When her two sons became full-time students, the timing was perfect for her to focus on her new baby—Core72. Chevy Chase Patch: What inspired you to open your own clothing store? Ferrall Dietrich: I have a business background and I went to business school. I always wanted to do something entrepreneurial and run my own business. It seemed to be a nice mesh between…

Hoamgar and women's shop Free People will take over the former American Apparel space in May.
A women's fashion boutique chain based in Asia is set to open its doors at the Westfield Montgomery Mall in May. Hoamgar, which sells women's apparel in cities including Beijing, China, and Singapore, Taiwan, will take over the space formerly occupied by the recently-closed American Apparel near the mall's Nordstrom entrance. While it's not clear why the hipster fashion hub closed its doors, Hoamgar will likely be a more sophisticated replacement. The line doesn't appear to have a US-based website, but the Marina Bay Sands shopping center in Singapore describes the clothing as "fresh, elegant yet casual style, ideal for the professional woman." An announcement at its future Westfield location calls the line "exclusive high fashion." Next …

A fee of up to 4 percent of a credit card purchase could be added to your bill come Sunday.
Think twice when you pull out your credit card to pay for brunch this weekend. A controversial federal court ruling last year has given retailers the go-ahead to tack bank surcharges for credit card purchases on customer bills—starting Sunday. Bank fees between 2 and 4 percent of a credit card purchase had traditionally been covered by retailers making the sales, but smaller businesses without the backing of major corporations usually felt the brunt of these charges. Ten states prohibit passing fees on to credit card users, but Maryland isn't one of them, according to an announcement issued by the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Regional Services Center. Customers can avoid the charges by paying with debit cards or prepaid cards. According to a Time…

Will you be heading to Bethesda Row to look for an inaugural ballgown?
Bethesda businesses are getting a boost from this year’s inauguration despite predictions of lower tourist numbers. Hotels in Bethesda, Chevy Chase and Silver Spring area already are filling up or have limited availability, The Gazette reported. “Our hotels are getting business this year as a result of the inauguration that they would not have gotten last year,” Kelly Groff, director of the Montgomery County Conference and Visitors Bureau, told The Gazette. “When there’s more people in our hotels, there’s more people in restaurants and shopping and taking cabs.” But local hotels and restaurants aren’t the only businesses making the most of inauguration hoopla. The expected reduction in tourism—only 800,000 visitors this year compared to …

After 28 years in business the store will close by the end of the month, employees say.
